How long should tabbards be? I think mine are too long. They hang past my knees, almost to the top of my boots. I know its a perosnal preference thing, but what would be a good length?

I usually like them to hang around 3" below the tunic....but....that really is kinda up to the individual...my current set of tabbards are actually too short....
so I made another....lol...I think they are too long....I just finished them and didn't get around to trying them on with the current tunic....
sigh....
like I have always said....are we ever truly finished?

Mine vary, but are tending toward getting longer, they started out on the short side, but the long looks a little better. They seem to vary from a few inches below the Obi to the boot tops and longer on the full length robes.

i think the longer the tabbard, more closer to becoming a full and complete master, but that's my opinion on that.lol, my tabbards i made couple weeks ago , are exactly 84 inches long, which puts them comfortably two inches above my knees, (front and back) {made from old curtains} great tanish coloring......

last night i looked at my old obi wan action figure, his tabbards are about qui-gon jinn's tabbrad length, which leaves about 12- 18 inches from bottom of his sir coat.....

So, for tabbards, do most people use a straight-rectangular pattern, or do some curves make them fit and drape and stay on better? I was thinking that curving at the shoulder and under the obi would serve this purpose, but would prefer to do straight, as I am lazy.
My tunic is longer--more like Eeth Koth, but not quite, so my tabbards will be quite long, possibly rivaling Jedimom's in wisdom.

very cool....very nicely done... I have also started a "custom" tabbard that conforms to my "shortness"...and comes where it should...it is still in the paper stage.... I have not had zero time to sew ......I hope to get to them in January....December is a bust...I already have most every weekend filled....

I know how you feel. I have been spending a lot of my free time at my reg. day job brainstorming and planning my new costumes. Hopefully once January hits everything will go relatively smoothly. Best of all I can get my mom to do all the sewing and tell her that if she does it she doesn't have to get me a birthday present...that the sewing would be my present. Maybe she will go for that. She is an excellent seamstress, but got burnt out on it big time. At one point about 15 years ago, she was making at least 10 outfits or more a week, plus the occasional bride's maid dresses or recital dresses. Even a few really fancy wedding dresses. Now you are lucky if you can get her to shorten some pants legs. Right now she is really big into quilting, so it isn't like she isn't sewing, she is just tired of making clothes.
