COol, For mine, I'd measured 2 yards long 14 inches wide peices of fabric for the tabbords and Obi from raw Silk.(Dharmatrading Company.com is wonderful. awesome and cheap fabrics.) I had a 1/2 - 5/8" seam allowance. They'er 6" wide when folded in half. I hand sewed the them, inside out. them turned it right side out.. Adjusted them so the seam was in the middle on the underside of the tabbord. So it's hiddden. :-) Sewing the Obi was a challenge. I used the Padawan's guide website formula for getting the right length and pattern.. I turned the Obi inside out, sewed the edges leaving a 3-4" wide opening at one end. To turn it right side out, then sew both edges of the ties.(They need to be reenforced b/c of being sued.) I think I goofed though. I think my obi and tabbords needed some sort of interfacing. Since I've a very small waist/ hips distance, my Obi curls at the edges. For Pics I have to flatten it out and stand up straight. Emerita saw the costume.

hello everybody, lol alittle sipmsons humor there, lol. these may help, go to www.jedi-academy.com/ep1_kenobi_shirt.htmlwhat i have printed and what is on the site, is a picture of obi-won from ep 1,beloww that pic are 3 pix of the tabbards, the tunic front and back, in these pix it shows the obi around the waist of the tunic, the tabbardss are attached to the obi in back in an x pattern, and in the front pic, the tabbards make an another x pattern at the obi, but each side of the tabbards are even and hang from the obi, as if the tabbards are crossed and attached to the obi, and the extensions are just added to the obi, so they are straight and even, which should extend about 7-12 inches below the obi, but that's an option for differing jedi tabbard length, and styles. i also think the longer the tabbard the higher the rank a jedi is but that's my opinion on the rank thingy. well go look and so you can see what i am talking about.lol. at this site i found this tabbard pattern, it has measurements for both length and width, but a nice diagram for the lay out, this loox like a vest design to me.i may use this particular design, lol. www.padawansguide.com/outertunic.shtmlthey also have an alternitive tabbard pattern and design, looks like a vest, with a split up the side. and this also they have an outer tunic design, which looks like it has a waist seam for the flairing.

What happened to the thought of maybe having a video we can download? I'd love to have some of Nova's wisdom on making costumes!!

well.....a lot of that depends on whether or not we can pull off "The Assembly of the Assembly"....Nova says she is coming...there are two things that COULD get in the way of that...so right now......well.....it is a complete unknown....I am leaving the status of "The Assembly of the Assembly" up in the air until after the new year....after folks take a look at their schedules for the year and their available $...

What I've been noticing lately from pictures I've seen lately that I never noticed before is that Obi-Wan's obi in Ep. 2 is very thick, as if padded. How is this accomplished (is it padding or is it doubled around his body 2-3 times or what?) And what is the significance of it? Does it make it stay up better? You can kind of see it here on the SW Insider cover : home.ripway.com/2004-1/50710/Folder%20Name/Jedi%20Stuff/obiobi.jpg

I think the crinkle cotton is sorta' thin in one layer so they made 4. The Obi does appear to be one garment. It doesn't appear to be a multi wrap around to me.

I think they may have used the heavier weight of cloth the india homespun, it might have a lining of somekind in it, but it looks heavier than gauze fabric to me, and gauze would not take that much abuse during filming. Don't think it's multi wrapped, as that would get very hot & uncomfortable, and kind of look not to attractive either.

Pau, for future reference, you can get tailor's chalk that comes off easily, in any fabric or sewing supply store.

I use Velcro to keep my obi in place. I didn't know the movies used it as well. Cool.I guess it's yet another happy accident.:-) Now my Obi fabric is sewen so that it'll stretch longways. It lets my rib cage be able to expand fully without it feeling like a corest.
Zhi , go with the velcro. use the VERY wide peices. Yeah velcro does make that frrrriip noise and could seem tacky, but it'll hold.Mine does. Altjhough I need to fasten it in front of me then turn it around to my back.(It looks funny wriggling and squerming to get it there.)

I use the tie sash.....you have to hide the "strings" behind you belt...and they come out a lot....but I do like that sash over-all...
....do you feel that the velcro looks tacky because you can see the velcro stitching from the outside ? If that is the reason then you can stitch the velcro to one side of the fabric before you fold over or join...then the stitching of the velcro to the fabric is invisible......did that make any sense?
I use velcro at the tops of the shoulders to keep the tabbards in place...and it is invisible.... ..and the next time someone is over, I plan to have them help me mark the spots for velcro to attach the tabbards to the sash too....it is really hard to do the back when you live by yourself....you just can't be wearing the costume and reach back there to mark or pin stuff....it is really frustrating...
