Well this collectible just turned 52 last week...my brain feels like a youngling but my flesh feels 90!!! Alas, I turned 52 last year.... and my body is OK (thankfully) other than a little too much of it... but my brain is the fog. But it's the end of *accounting season* so that's my excuse.... (That's my story and I'm stickin' to it...)Getting older is not for sissies, is it? Happy belated birthday! I think accounting would fry any ones brain!LOL!! Thank you for the belated B-Day wishes. BTW, I see in your avatar that you have a dark robe on...where did you get it/make it from???I can't find any darker fabric around here to make an Anakin one in Dark brown.... DianaG

Ok, here's one for the books, Sunday, on FB I saw a post by my kid sisters granddaughter, about her 3 year old son! Which makes my kid sister a GREAT GRANDMOTHER! Or, I guess that makes e old enough to be one. His name is Diego, and he's very cute in pictures.

Greetings Collectibles! As I find myself on the brink of this "age of wonder" I wonder why my ample jedi belt no longer fits me! Alas I must lose 60 pounds by C6. Any suggestions?

Greetings Collectibles! As I find myself on the brink of this "age of wonder" I wonder why my ample jedi belt no longer fits me! Alas I must lose 60 pounds by C6. Any suggestions? After trying different approaches, what is working great for my husband and me is the old fashioned write everything down and keep track of calories. I've lost 22 pounds since 3 Jan. He's lost more and is lower than he's been in many years. When I cook something that I'm just throwing together out of the fridge (a mixed veg stir fry, for instance), I weigh each thing and calculate the calories. Then I total it all and figure the calories per gram. Once served, it's weighed again for the # of grams in the serving and calories calculated.

Good 'ol calorie counting. nice to hear it might still work. I eat very healthy I guess just too much lol. Congrats on the weight loss Kai and J'aii! Now that I have less stress (dad is settling in the nursing home) it will be easier to get motivated to exercise. Plus I hung up all my jedi costumes and set out a nice jedi display in my recently cleaned out guest (geek) room. I have to say its a guest room but whoever sleeps there better be an Obi-Wan fan Im hoping that seeing the costumes every day will spark me to stick to a good diet plan!

Grats Leda! We spoke about consulting our patients on weight loss in my Nutrition class last semester. 1. Watch your calories and the type of calories you eat. 2. Drink plenty of water. Some weight is due to metabolic by-products that need to be flushed from your system. Carbonated beverages are bad unless you have indigestion to calm your stomach. A Brita or Pur water filter pitcher or sink filter is a good investment. 3. Eat your veggies and fiber. Going to the Jedi Outhouse daily is a good thing. Steam veggies when possible to maintain the vitamins they contain. 4. Limit alcoholic beverages to 2/day for men and 1/day for women. Alcohol causes many problems and widespread systemic havoc when consumed in excess (I did one of my term papers on alcohlic beverages and their affects). Alcohol causes dehydration and causes adverse effects on your brain and CNS. 5. Physical activity is great! Even a simple walk daily will help with your weight loss goals. Your heart is a muscle and needs to be strengthened, too. 6. Avoid fad diets. More muscle = more calories burned to maintain metabolism = more weight lost. A simple walk will cause some muscle growth that will raise your metabolism. Fad diets tend to make your body "eat' muscle because it's a protein source that it needs to maintain crucial body functions and contributes to fat deposition (called the Fasting Response). I'll be slimming down, myself to be trimmer for ConnectiCon and C6. I find myself sitting down too much and need to get out of my TV chair.....I'm initially aiming for 2 in. off my waist so *my* Jedi Belt fits better!

Thanks Cal! Good info there...seriously. So far I lost 20 lbs. 40 more to go. I eat fish (tuna, salmon), grapefruit and blackberries, raw spinach and steamed brussel sprouts, and sprouted grain bread, which is a complete protein. No other carbs than that. I have soy milk in my coffee and no sugar. I quit drinking beer, except for special occasions... had a couple on Easter. I do drink seltzer water though. Lots of it... about 3 or 4 liters a day. It's like my vice. lol. I also work out using the treadmill everyday... 2 miles takes me about 45 minutes. The weight isn't coming off consistently though. Hubby is losing it faster because he's on diet pills. But I laugh when I see him try to eat veggies! He always hated them! Me, I love what I eat, and I feel healthier too. Lots of energy yay! I wonder why carbonated beverages are bad... did they mention why?

Carbonated beverages contain the Carbonite ion, which is an amphoteric ion (an amphoteric molecule acts as both an acid and base depending on the conditions it's in). Carbonated beverages can change the PH of your stomach and interfere with the enzymes that your stomach lining excretes. Those enzymes are PH speciific so they stop working when they leave your stomach and enter the small intestine. Most carbonated beverages for people is soda pop, which contains "junk" like artificial sweeteners, coloring, preservatives, and some sodas also contain Phosphoric Acid (H3PO4). I used this acid when i was a Junior Chemist and it dissolves things nicely. It dissolves your teeth and has been proven to lower bone density, this acid also binds with Magnesium and Calcium in your GI tract and prevents it from absorbed.
Flavored seltzer water is a "lesser evil", but try to drink more water. Try adding a few drops of lemon or lime juice concentrate to make the water taste better to you. Otherwise, you sound like you eat healthy.

Interesting. Thanks for that lesson! Maybe that's why seltzer is great for zapping my hunger away. Changes the PH, hence changes the enzymes that are probably causing me hunger pangs. Carbonite... hmmm... Don't want to end up like Han.
