I use osnaburg for the outer tunic. I like something lighter for the inner tunic. Remember that scene in AOTC when Anakin is just wearing his inner tunic? Those can be very thin, and osnaburg is generally heavier than that.
The first time I got some osnaburg it was very stiff. But the first time I prewashed it, it shrank and softened up very nicely. The nubbliness of the coarse cotton came out very well, too.

I have several outer tunics made from Osnaburg... most of my inner tunics are made from crinkle gauze...

I do the same thing, Schph. I do have one matching osnaburg undertunic which I wear if I'm going to be outside in cold weather.

Jan-Qui, Is the Osnaburg a fabric you're suggesting for the outer tunic or the inner tunic? I looked at it from the link you provided, but it looks too soft for the outer tunic. Don't get me wrong, it looks like it would feel incredibly comfortable, certainly, but it looks like it wouldn't be "stiff" enough for the outer tunic...I don't know; I'm none too versed on fabrics, so maybe you would know more about it...thanks for the link, though! It's incredibly helpful! Now I can know what to do in and look for what I do my next tunic.... Thanx! I've got samples of that fabric & it can be used for the outer tunic. The on thing you can do is double the fabric, if to you it feels or seems to soft to you, to thicken it, it would be like lining the tunic. I was so hoping to get some in chocolate brown, because I've seen the sample. I was going to get some the natural dyed chocolate but they require 1000 yards---a bit much fabric. I'm hoping in 2010 maybe the calcutta will show up again---at least I keep hoping. Otherwise I'm going to have to do osnaburg, if I have to make anymore tunics, which for the present time I have enough, I hope to see me through till whenever. I've attempted dying fabric myself & it has turned out badly. Though I know of one person who dyed some fabric & it turned out gorgeous.
