Has anyone ever tried modifying the hilt of a Luke Skywalker/Anakin FX lightsaber hilt? Specifically the hand grip. The black hand grip strips have ridges that stick out, making the hilt too wide for my hand to hold comfortably. Getting rid of those ridges would reduce the diameter of the hilt a bit and make it a lot easier to handle.
I was wondering if anyone had ever tried this and if so, how they did it?

its too bad they didn't make these things to scale the anakin RTOS FX is the correct length compared to the LE , but the hilt is "fatter" (outer diameter of the hilt is increased) they did this with 'most' of the FX models, to accommodate the electronics. -==============- I would probably try an exacto-knife to trim off the ridges; if that doesn't work then maybe a rotary tool with a sanding bit, to 'grind them down' instead of 'cut them off' (?)

I actually have both versions. The hilt on the Anakin version is about the right size, except for the hand grip which has ridges down the centers of the black hand grip strips. Those ridges make the hilt too fat for my hand to hold comfortably. Is there any good way to shave off the ridges? Without those the hilt is about the right size.

I would probably try the exacto-knife to cut the ridges off, or the rotary tool to grind them down. either way would probably look sloppy, though. :/
the ideal tool would almost be like a razor-sharp carrot-peeler, to act as a carpenters "planer". then you could shave an even strip off the entire length of the grip.
but again, that might look sloppy too.
--> you'd almost be better off removing the existing grips altogether, and then attaching 'flat' grips with a nice strong adhesive (?)

Yeah, removing the black strips and putting on flat ones seems like the best way to go. I'm just hoping to find someone who's already tried it before getting out the chisel and hammer and possibly breaking something. Those grips look glued on, but I suppose I better check on the inside surface just in case.......
......OK, just checked on the inside. The black hand grip strips are on the inside of the handle on the inside of the battery cavity. But I don't see any screw heads. I won't be able to knock them off from the outside without major damage.
I had to modify the grip on my Parks saber for the same reason - ridges that made the handle too wide for my hands. The Xacto knife method does look sloppy.
