Ok, I'm wanting to do some Tatooine inspired jedi boots. I know that work boots are a no-no but I wanted to check on this idea. First off, alot of the tatooine costumes have some sort of leg wrap similiar to a WWI puttee. Though in episode IV Lukes apear to be his boots and not a seperate wrap. Anyway, what I was thinking about doing was to make a puttee and a spat and use my coyote Brown combat boots. The spat will cover the lower part of the lacing that won't be covered by the wrap. I'm going to try to find time to make the puttee in the next couple days. for sure I'll have it done thursday and I'll but up a picture for a visual reference. The spat will take a little longer. Just wanted to know what everyone's thoughts on the idea where before i put alot of work into it.

here's my temporary mock up. I can only find my black and navy thread at the moment so it's only pinned together. :-( the spats aren't the final ones, just a scrap piece of leather i stuck under there. I'd appreciate any feedback.

Looks great so far. Great start. I can visualize what they'll look like when you'er done. Now how will you put them one? Slide on over the foot like a boot?

as per the WW1 version, they're in reality a 4 yard role of fabric. they get wrapped around the leg in a certain way. I started with a 3 yard role. My calf's are a bit big so i ended up a bit short. I stopped at wal-mart today and got some more fabric to tack on another yard or so. I'm thinking of doing a more elaborit spat. probably something closer to a shinguard. I use to make leather armor and have a full suit of a sort of fantasy based samurai armor i made. It's been a couple years since I did much leather work, so I'm kinda itching to do something big.
