misslizz.deviantart.com/art/Leather-Boots-88566154I really hope that link works right... The boots are 4-5oz. oil-tanned leather in a grungy, distressed dark brown and modeled after Saesee Tiin's as seen on his action figure. They took me the better part of two weeks to make them. Would they work well for an outfit? I mean, I'm not doing a Saesee Tiin costume (mostly cause I'm female), I just liked the boots because they looked different from the riding/tank boots I've seen. And I just can't do anything simple. Ignore the pants legs, they were simply what I was wearing. Blessed be, Elith

Never mind the question about photos of your boots I posted in the intro thread.
These are very cool! Yes, they Work!

Thanks ya'll. My cordwainer's skills are still in their infancy so I was feeling kind of iffy on the boots. I really appreciate your kind words.
And just a quick question because I'm one of those ever-curious sorts, why doesn't anyone else seem to do this? I mean, making a pattern for boots, cutting the leather, and sewing them up. Admittedly, the only reason I made boots was because I gave up on finding an affordable pair in my size (small feet, and $30 versus $100+ in too big sizes).

Well...I'd love to do some myself, but I tend to faint at the sight of needles so sewing is OUT for me... really though I can't sew at all, I just end up bleeding on the fabric.... ;D

I'd have lost a lot more blood than I did if leather needles were sharp, it was the awl that kept getting me.

Are they spats over a commercial boot or did you make the footbed, too.

They're complete boots. Measuring out the pattern to fit my foot and the sole was the hardest part. Is that what you meant?

The shaft of the boot doesn't look like it's attached to the "shoe" portion. I'm just trying to figure out how you made them.

Oh. Duh to me. Yeah, the uppers attached to the vamp (I think those are right) but not along the bottom of the shaft. The sewing is a little ways up so I could get the "flap" it looked like Tiin's boot has. But, yes it's all attached. Very well since it hasn't come apart what with the tugging and abuse I've been heaping on them in order to test the seams.

I'm puzzled. What is the 'vamp'? It looks like there's a shoe part and then the boot shaft attached in the middle where the tongue of a tennis shoe would be? The reason why I haven't tried this because I've been lucky enough to find some nice looking used boots on ebay. You just have to look for a long time and I have average 7 1/2 size female feet. It seems to me that it's not too hard to find short boots. If I were going to modify something for Jedi boots I would have been inclined to start with short boots and add spats to those. But I found tall boots after all and didn't have to. I did add straps to one pair; with a lot of careful measuring, a sharp knife and a metal straight edge they turned out very well. Sorry, I used the wrong word. The vamp is the part of the uppers that covers the toes and part of the instep. I don't know what the shaft is properly called yet. Yes, that's right. The shaft is attached right there, maybe a bit lower, right at the ankle. I'd have bought boots gladly but a year of no luck sort of got me down. Several styles caught my eye but I have small (size 6 about), but wide feet so it's difficult to find good looking boots. I made these because I had given up on finding any. Sorry about the confusion. And your own boots sound very cool. I'm puzzled. What is the 'vamp'?
