I am planing on making a Hardware Vader style saber, but I am wanting to ad a motor to spin a dowl rod with reflective tape on it. I think that would add a cool look at gatherings and such. Does anyone have any suggestions for motors, and battry packs?

Thats basicly what they did in ANH. But it was a triangular rod and they had a special light off a few feet that when it hit the reflective material on the "blade", on camera is glow'd.

Thats how they got the classic blade flicker look.

I would say a 7.2V rechargable battery pack(with a smart charger), as far as motors go I would say try to find the weakest power drill motor thats tiny enoguht to be put into a hilt.

Then figure out how to fassen the rod to the motor.

They used the material off a movie screen... you might be able to find an old home movie screen at a thrift store or a school surplus site...

I think there are some places you can get the reflective paint they use on movie screens, but it's been too long since I've worked at a theater to remember what it's called.

You can find a reflective spray paint, though.

i found some in a construction shop....but not very good result. Better use reflective tape from 3M brand ( and for paint your limited to yellow and orange )
