There are some rumors about that the Obi-Wan saber will have a new thicker blade on it like the new darth mauls do which encourage dueling a bit more. I've also heard that they may be changing to a AAA battery pack instead of the traditional 3 AA or 6 AA (of older versions).

The Maul double uses 3 AAA in each half.

The Maul double uses 3 AAA in each half. Indeed it does. Personally I wouldn't duel (or at least "go hard") with any of the FX line of sabers- too much of a risk damaging them. As for the Obi/Ep III saber... when I first saw pictures of it I pretty much hated it. Couldn't stand the thick neck, and the "grooves" in the grenade section aren't deep enough. Of course this is all to allow room for the internal electronics. But now having seen more and more pictures I'm definitely getting one. It will be the second blue bladed lightsaber I own. The sound should be nice and loud as the speaker section isn't covered by any D-ring assembly (such as my Luke ESB saber). And I've always loved the design of the Obi Ep III/IV saber! ;D

Light dueling is safe with the fx sabers, it is all really in the heat of the blade and the force you use in striking. After approximately 10 minutes of use the leds inside get hot and the solder joints holding them together get hot also. If you strike hard enough you would dislodge the leds inside causing internal damage. Although this is bad, it doesn't nessesarily mean the hilt becomes entirely useless. You could upgrade the blade to a Luxeon hilt or even a Hyperblade through Hyperdyne. Or of course you could cut the blade off and wear it. I also don't like the "fat neck" of the ROTJ Luke saber and the new EPIII Obi-wan but I've grown to accept it also.

Also, this may seem strange but hitting the fx lightsabers on something soft like a pillow or matress will actually do more harm to your blade than hitting say wood or a wall. This is all in the vibration in the blade that is nessessary to cause the clash sound. It takes a lot more force to make the softer materials cause a clash sound. Harder denser material makes the strike brief and quick registers. The area where the blade meets the hilt doesn't take a lot of stress and abuse to cause a sound when you hit something harder. Just a bit of knowlege I've collected on the subject.

Force Fx are one of their biggest selling items, they are so much more availble now and the price is lowered(here anyway)( so more people go hard with em knowing they can get a new one.
I like it andf I don't, I wish they wouyld improve the design and release it and do the same with Lukes as it looks rather plain compared to the detail of the other fx's

Also, about the heat factor, yea if you leave them on for a really long period of time the leds can go out. But i notice that the best batteries for them are the lithium ones by energizer. Since they do make thsaber look brighter, those batteries are much better for the electronics in the fx sabers, because these are good for digital cameras and stuff like that.

Oh yeah batteries are very sensitive in the fx lightsabers. Old cheap ones will cause spotting on the blade. High quality batteries like the lithium ones cause it to have a bright bright glow.
