This is specific for using your FX saber with your costume, so I'll put it here instead of in Toys....
When I got home from a con last month I found that my FX lightsaber didn't come on. Oh, no! Well, with some fiddling I got it back working, but I fear I won't be taking it through checked baggage again.
I have an ANH Luke FX lightsaber. It uses six AA batteries and has been reasonably sturdy for light use and saber play. The batteries are loaded on a cartridge that fits into the hit and I found that the guide peice inside the hilt that lines the cartridge up had gotten loose. The problem was that it wasn't making the right connection, so it wasn't coming on. So, I jiggled it and that fixed the connection. Sigh of relief. But I'll have to be more careful with it when using it with my costume.
FYI: I saw that the ROTS Anakin FX lightsaber, which is almost the same as the Luke one has a slightly slimmer hilt, only uses three AA batteries and is just a bright. If they keep improving like that I may get a new one.

FX sabers aren't ment to be used by costumers. Master Replicas made them as display pieces, not as props. Therefore, loose parts and problems WILL occur. This is why I made my saber, its more sturdy. This being said, if anyone have a defect saber and is willing to part with the electronics, let me know. I still have to add sound to my own saber

I think that the FX sabers actually were made for the purpose of swinging around... they are pretty much toys. People buy them for their children and to fight each other with. It may say otherwise in the manual, but MR know what their target audience is, thats why they are made out of strong tube blades and plastics, and why they are so much cheaper than replicas. Hell, they even make a sound when you bash them against something, and you have to hit it quite hard to generate the sound. I think that the problem with yours Ani is that it is one of the first generations of FX sabers, and made not as sturdy for duelling perhaps. It shouldnt be a problem with the newer ones, as long as you duel in moderation

as long as you duel in moderation There is no such thing as moderation in a duel... But really, even mild dueling can result in damaged FX sabers. Saw that. Its a shame when you pay big bucks for a toy that breaks when you use it.

True, the generations they've made have had their differences.

I've noticed that any time my saber stops turning on, I can fix it by taking the battery component out and then sticking it back in. Sometimes I've tried switching the batteries around.
I have also seen weird behavior with our Vader's saber. After carrying it around for a while, the blade will turn on then off by itself. If it's not properly seated, the LEDs in the blade will illuminate sporadically. Weird stuff. But as Master Yoda says, the dark side clouds things.
My seven-year-old son and I duel with the sabers all the time, but I don't think that I would try "combat" dueling without blocking it out first...

The blade on my ROTJ Luke gen2 has gotten a little loose. Too bad the blade doesn't extend further into the hilt. It's not from striking anything, just when I practiced some lightsaber katas I was striking full power, coming to a complete stop. I was able to make the striking sound without the blade touching anything. Just too much prolonged stress on it I think, so now it's all display, unless I take it to a con or something. I might not be able to resist.

Ok guys when your doing katas or Dulon in star wars terms you never swing and then just stop, sword movements are meant to flow, circular one flowing into another making the force shift and not loose it's effect.
I love my fx sabers and they rock, but if you are fighting with em ya gotta keep it light. If ya don't ask yourself if ya have the extra cash to get a new one. Being that I have to do a lot of fights for presentations, films etc I have like 3 back ups of the model saber I use but that don't mean I'm any less careful with it.
They wil get damaged, the looks on peoples faces at c3 when they were wondering why they're fx sabersonly lit up halfway cause they hit em too hard was rather amusing to a point.
Take care of your toys
