The picture of the saber you psoted was quite nice. He did an excellant job.
For the Highguard, I want to study one closely first before I decide to do a replica or not. For the vine on the other saber, I might be using the microdremel. LOTS of patience too.

if I can be of any help, I am working on a Force Lance replica currently (non-lightsaber, not even any functionnal) This being said, the saber that was pointed out (even if very nice) doesn't seam very Force Lance to me if you're to make a ForceLanceSaber, I'd like updated ;-)

I have to admit, I'm having a hard time finding reference images of a forcelance, so far, all I can find is a closeup of one end: www.stevebacic.com/sbcpic/and101_800.jpgThe micxrodremel will certainly take lots of patience, I'd also advise (if you don't already have a set) getting a set of very small hand files (about the size of pencils) for some of the more intricate work, as they'll allow you a greater degree of controll with some of the fine details [Edit to add] I was also meaning what will you be making the saber itself from? The An'ya Kuro-esque saber is most likely going to be made from PVC and, believe it or not, string Depending on the quality and outcome, I might even write another tutorial

Some of the entries were really good this year.

personally if i had a choice and the ability to get one, I would get a light-staff. More for a defence.

If ya want. the closest thing i have seen is a double blade one like Darth Maul, and though that would work, it is deffently not a staff. There was one creation in a role playing game, once, there were 2 hand bracelets, see link www.sblades.com/brclts.phpwith 2 "crystals" on the inside of the palm, that when connected, activated into a light staff. sorry to be shuch a pain hope that helps some Trayer

I've been thinking about this some more lately... In the Visual Dictionary for the OT, it says how lightsaber designs often relate to personal histories, and gives the examples of how Vader's saber is a darker version of the one he used as a padawan, and how Luke's saber is similar to the one Obi-Wan used. I was wondering if there were any other examples of Jedi who's sabers actually did relate to personal histories, for example, the sabers Master Windu had are completely different from each other... My personal sabers have always featured some reference to Obi-Wan's TPM/AotC saber, as not only is it one of my favorite designs, but Ewan McGregor has always been my favorite actor. My first lightsaber: My 'Jedi Master' lightsaber: My 'rededication to the Jedi' lightsaber:
