Well i was looking around here on the forums, and a thought occurred to me, it would be really cool to have an astromech droid that follows you as part of your costume. work electronics and motors to simulate r2d2 for example or even the t3 type from kotor, such as follows i would want t3, just cause i played both kotor games, and even when i played the sith out, i just coulnt be mean to t3, he was awsome, and cute...i mean look at him

Its definitely cool, and I would love to have an R2 unit... but its also very expensive and a lot of hard work. You have to be really committed and pretty good with hardware/electronics to build one. But it is doable... there are astromechs out there and it shouldnt be too hard to come across plans and tutorials.

I'd love an R2 unit as well. My character has an astromech named R2-B4, and oneday, I hope to bring this companion to life. Rather than standard colors, it would be the dark bronze and dark gold colors of the recently re-vamped daleks. I'm pretty good with making things, but no experience of electronics or vacuum forming, so the chances of me making one myself are slim

Interesting...be nice to have one and have like a infra red control on your belt that it must follow. If you are good you could get the hasbro R2 unit and modify the workings and other stuff to make a more realistic unit...

Yeah but if you do it and take it to a convention then a lot of people might start doing it. Not so bad but then people will start to play "pimp my astromech" and then we'll have R2 units rolling on 22... spinnin'... haha.

I'm still looking for a cheap RC car that would be the right size to make a mouse droid - any suggestions?

actually, when i was at the consumer electronic show in las vegas nevada, there was an articulate robot made by honda, so the hk47 droid isnt that far fetched, we should be able to do it within the next 10 years, the only issue is the battery power for it, and the AI here is a pic though:

I fail to see them having something like the HK47 in the next 10 years. Alternatively, sony also is developing walking robots that are quite cool. Problem with machines like that is the ability to perform in "unknown" areas... both sony and honda's versions are programmed for specific tasks in specific environment.

There is a friend of mine in the 501st who built a R2 unit said it cost him about 11 thousand and still working on it. SO it takes some deadication.
