OK so as far as i can tell these hard plastic razors are hard to get well i found one and i decided to make a comlink which was not on my to do list until now. Anyway i was wondering if anyone could tell me what in the world a "greeble" is, i keep seeing the word pop up every now and then when there is a comlink thread. also could anyone tell how i should go about painting?

A "greeblie" is just a piece of hardware or some other interesting-looking bit used to decorate a prop.
What do you want to know about painting it? That seems fairly straight forward, to me, if you've ever painted a model other prop or something else before.

Maybe he hasn't done model painting before. Don't some paints and primers work better on certain surfaces than others? Soem like spray paint, and some like like brush on paint, right? Sounds like a reasonable question to me. Especially if, like me, you don't even know what a greeblie is.... ;D

alright my brother(JediPadawanJB) he has painted models before, But hes not good at it, he'll be man enough to admit that. but he was also wondering like what paints to use, does he have to sand it, what about primers and other such painting questions.
(wow I'm at 301 posts...cool)

Ahh I've done these.:-) Oooo they'er loads of fun. Okeyday, here's whatcha' do with the painting goodies..
1. Sand that bugger down with the courest grit of sand paper. or at the least a medium grit until it's ruffed up. That way the primer will adhere tot he palstic MUCH better.(I did this without sanding and it chipped off. so GOTTA" sand it.)
2. Prime it in grey primer. My recomondation is Krylon grey Primer and let dry completely. One coat should be fine unless you see it requires a second.
3. Paint with Krylon silver or black. Do 2-3 thin light coats, let dry completely between each.
4. Finish off with Krylon clear Matte finish UNLESS ya' want a glossy new look, go glossy. :-) Whichever you think loosk best IS the best.
Now I've added my greeblies(Do dads, thingmajiggers ) before I've painted. I used barge glue to affix them but have found i don't like it cuz it'll cause the plastic to heat up and go 'gummy'.. Epoxy might work well. What ever fixident you use to make those things stay is your choice. If you find a good fixident, lemme know I'm looking for a better one. ;-)
I use all Krylon spray paints cuz it's reletivly cheaper the most, easy to apply and easy to find at a local craft/fanbric store. (Jo-Anns, ben Franklin's, Handc o c k's) and it looks great. Another plus, it's what the prop guys used for the movies, and they'er always using stuff that's easy to get a hold of just about anywhere. I use the same method to paint the food capsules too.
A tip: Paint the 'greeblies' and 'link separatly and attach once they'er completely dry. Experiment, see what works best for you.
Last tip and this one's real important:
HAVE FUN!:-) Make this thing to YOUR specs no one elses unless you'er puposefully trying to replicaite a specific prop. . Want it to look used and aged. GO for it. Whatever thingmajiggers you find around the house, garage, tool box etc you see and it screams "COMLINK!" use it. :-D If you want to know what things I'd used I'll be happy to tell you, just ask.
I hope this helps and any questions, feel free to tug my robe and ask.
