One of the props I've not seen many of lately, and one I only just now got around to making. This came out pretty well, and was easily made... The "air tanks" on mine are made from two handles from some cheap sharpening rods (cutlery rods...sharpening steel...) which I modified slightly (length, removal or steel ring on the ends used to hang the tool from...) and painted metallic pewter... ~Kai Rhann

Very nice! Looks great. What did you use for the mouth piece? I have heard of people using plastic sthingys.

I cut the mouthpiece out custom from 1/8" thick white plastic stock. I tend to stockpile materials like that where I work, scrap plastic, metals, MDF, etc.
I cut the mouthpiece to a rough shape on a band saw, and then used a drum sander attatchment on a dremel to refine the shape. Took perhaps 10 minutes to make.
The black center part of the unit is made from a piece of 3/4" wooden dowell rod. Tapered the ends, flattened the portion that the mouthpiece attatches to, drilled holes for the hinges and mouthpiece screws. I also covered this part in shrink tubing (this is rubber tubing for covering wires and cables, like a bike inner tube...shrinks when a heat gun is used on it) as I wanted a rubber-like piece there. A similar effect can be achieved with Plastidip/Plastikote (for tool handles)...

Wow! It's pretty cool how the simple materials make great looking stuff. I think we have some of that plastic here at work too. I have been wanting to do this one for a while just never found the time. But you have given me inspiration.
Your stuff always looks great. Can't wait to see more.

Kai, how did you get the little things that connect the mouthpiece to the air tanks? You know, with the hinges?
Can't wait to make mine. [Bows to Master Jerra]

I made this A-99 Breather a few months back. The filters is that material called 'rug sure' that keeps the carpet sticking to the floor. The air canisters are dowel wood and some kind of plumbing repair parts I bought. The other stuff are washers, O-rings, and the usual model plane hinges. The mouthpiece was carved from a wooden cooking sthingy. The material attached to the hinges is heat shrink.
