While making a child's Jedi costume for a charity raffle ....and in Target for something else... I ran across some women't belts that looked really good for the skinny inner belt of a Jedi belt... they were on sale...and only $1.97... I bought the belt....and combined with a length of scrap leather strap I made this belt for the chairity costume... The only other thing I used was snaps that are inexpensive and come with the setting tool from Tandy... So... if you need a belt...I would hustle down to Target and snap up a couple of the narrow belts with the gold metal detail... a few bucks worth of stuff from Tandy....and ... you are good to go... It would be a nice starter belt...

I love Target! Actually my buckle and inner belt were cut up from 2 different Target belts too.... my version of the traditional style with a larger buckle and a little more "decoration" for being a "girl". [Since this picture was made, I've tweaked the pouches a bit and ordered some cool ribbed ones from Melanie Mattson. ] And I just got some clearance belts to cut up to add straps to my boots. Yes, I do love Target! Great work, Schph!

ooooohhhh.....way cool! I stopped in at a different Target on the way home from work hoping to pick up a couple more belts...and I could not find the kind of belt in the photo at the second Target... The second Target did have some REALLY wide other belts for only $17.00...I was tempted...but didn't buy... I am going to try to get back to the first Target tonight....I seem to be doing about one Child's Jedi costume each year for charity raffles...so these belts will come in handy. Yes, I sometimes don't understand why some people making Jedi costumes don't try something like this to make a belt....some just take a regular belt and use it....but if you just cut up that regular belt...and ...a little out of the box thinking...and you can make a really decent belt... You can get by with velcro if you do it wisely....and then there is "Shoe Goo" which is a really GREAT cement for details you might want to add... ....so if you don't want to/don't know how/don't have tools/ to use regular leather fasteners and snaps...you can still get by...

Good idea. Sometimes you'll find me looking over women's belts at various department stores (with some very odd looks), even sometimes at the register. I just respond "I construct costumes", but I usually ignore their comments. Case in point- not long ago I noticed a woman's belt which under closer inspection resembled armored links- at 75% off. In short, I cleaned out Wal-Marts in 5 states for a future costume. Now? Haven't seen a belt with the same potential since........
I've noticed women's fashion in belts change frequently, so theres always something to choose from. Belts for Men is seldom intersting. Then there's Thift stores.....
Many great Jedi belts are in the women's section, who gonna notice when you construct one.
P.S. I won a Workmanship award at CostumeCon25 for Unusual Materials which included parts from women's belts......so there!
