Yup - the old hermit series is now done and available - I am actually quite happy with how it turned out - so you guys can see what I started with here is the research and mock up that I worked from. Now - the finished piece: Close Up PicsNot to shabby of a design - I am glad that I was finally able to look at all the details and get this belt done right, IMO of course Dave

Nice job! I like the hanging pouch... I never noticed that from any figures or custom belts, I didn't even catch it in the movie! Is there any way you can age/soften the leather so it looks more used? That's the only thing I can suggest for making it better, not sure if it can be done though without actual wear...

Awesome work Dave! I see you guys are starting to stitch pouches now, thats awesome. I really like the look and work of this belt Don, theres ways to age leather, Daves stuff comes up brand new, so to get it used looking you'd have to beat it, roll it, etc....takes some time but for a worn look, its the best way

Thanks guys DS - if you actually work the leather like Justin suggested then it will come out real aged and weathered looking - this can be done both pre and post dyeing of the leather - the more you work the leather the softer and more weathered it ends up - I personally like to leave that type of ageing to the discrecion of the end user - everyone has a different preference on "weathering" I don't know how well the pics show it but we did in fact age the saber hook and the buckle with a combo of black and grey drybrushing. As far as stiching pouches - about the only thing we do is stich the velcro on them, that pouch because it just looks better, and the velcro on the belts - everything else is still the same and I still prefer the button studs for closure over the velcro Dave

That looks great!
I was looking at the action figure of Old Ben in Walmart yesterday, and his buckle was brass. So was it brass or silver?

Looks very good, Dave!
I only just recently noticed the pouch hanging from the belt in some screen-captures sent to me by a friend.

That looks great! I was looking at the action figure of Old Ben in Walmart yesterday, and his buckle was brass. So was it brass or silver? To me it doesn't look brass - I think it is very weathered silver - this pic actually shows the real buckle: It could have a brass base to it - but it is hard to tell from pictures - plus the action figures I have been seeing have old Ben with the Skywalker Graflex Dave

Yes, I was commenting to Nova that Ben has Anakin's saber on his belt. Curious..............
It is hard to tell from the picture. Looks old and ratty. I guess that's what happens when you wear your costume in the desert for 100 years. lol!

I just bought the 3 inch "old fossil" and his belt is copper, and he has Luke's ANH saber on his belt while he's wielding his own.
But in another figure I have, It's silver... I guess it depends on the way the light hits it... or what color paint they ordered too much of that week! lol!
At any rate... I suspect that it's just made of old, weathered metal. Kinda tarnished, but not rusted.

Well toys cannot get too detailed, so to make it look old they may have decided to use the brass colour.

well - one of the theory's that we (Justin and I) have been throwing around for months is that the belt was actually a real world, found item. We think that the belt could have been a old war gunbelt with the one cross belt over the shoulder - that might explain why there are extra belts rivited to the main belt - they could be there to cover up "holes" of some kind. Again - just a theory........ It is very possible that the original buckle was a brass or just a pot metal - unfortunately the "real belt" at this point is both over 20 years old just from the movies and god only knows how old from the real world - I would bet that there is a ton of rust, grime, and just gunk all over that buckle - if cleaned up and polished I would almost guarantee that the original color would come back up of course I could be totally wrong about this whole thing...... It's in the Star Wars exhibit, I saw it at the Brooklyn Museum when it was here. They had the complete costume on display I really have to get the pics from the boss & find a way to post those. But I love the belt you did a great job. Might have to think about that...... I also think the old gunbelt theory is right, that's what I always thought it looked like as well. I seem to remember thinking that the buckle was aluminum or nickle silver with a wire brushed surface to take away the shine.
