I just finished 2 new Jedi Belts This one is "My Standard" I build when asked. (I think it is the 34th but I have lost count ) The was a request for a Jaina Solo Belt. I started with this picture This is what I came up with: Just wanted to share (Yes ... I know the small belt beens to be trimmed, but I leave that to the buyer, so it fits right) ;D

That looks good! Nice and simple. I like it. AMazing how putting one belt on top of another makes it look Jedi.

Very nice! That Jaina belt must be the new "in" thing this year - I did a custom based on it (kind of) - ended up looking a bit different than yours: Close UpsI like the way yours came out - how did you do the buckle? I know that ended up being the frustration on mine. Lucky for me the buyer was willing to talk about custom options - so I did a weathered version of my Anakin buckle for her. Dave

Thanks ... After much searching ... I used a buckle off a dog collar ... Since then I found these ... www.strapworks.com/tonguebuckles.htmlI left off the side detail, at $6.00 a dog collar, I did not feel it was worth it ...

Thank you
I was glad when that belt order came in - after a long run of just Jedi belts I was actually starting to get bored with them. That belt got the creative juices flowing and, for the first time in months, got me excited about doing a belt.
It's those customs that are fun to do IMO - as long as there is an idea to work from and the new owner is open to ideas.

Hey Mon-Jas, nice belt buckle on that first pic at the top of this page... the twisted one. Was that a chance find or do you have a source for that style?
And the rivets are cool too. I just made a Sith belt and I used spiked style screw backs just like those.

...and speaking of dog collars, leashes, or whatever... here's a pic of the belt that I made. Note the buckle... www.geocities.com/galaxygal_117/costumedetails/Jedi-belt.htmlI'm looking to replace it with something more suitable for a Jedi. I don't really like the Anakin style buckles, I want something closer to Obi-Wan's style. I like that twisty one!

I get them at Hanc.ock Fabrics ... They are $1.89. The come in Silver and Gold. The part number for the gold is B601. PM me if you can not find any around you. I started using the spikes, when I could not find anything like the Browne Buttons before CII they were a quick fix to complete the belt before I left.... I got so many complements at CII that I just kept them. I have made a couple of belts with the buttons, but most people ask for the spikes. I have another Jaina Solo Belt on the bench now ... Seems to have generated a lot if interest. (Got to love the auto substitution of “offensive” words, Maybe the stores name will be correct in a PM )

Awesome stuff you guys.....simply amazing!
stoopid question....have you bought a lot of leatherworking tools.....or have you just been using stuff you already had....
I have often thought about doing some leatherworking...but have been hesitant to buy tools...only because I would not be sure how much I would actually end up using the tools......and then I would have yet more tools hanging around....
I had a local leatherworker make my belt (which I love)....

I have bought a ton of tools. Some people will tell you that you don't need much, some will tell you that you need a lot of them - I went by what would be useful to me and what I would be doing.
Just the basics you should have a set of leather shears, hole punch (my first was a rotary punch), and your basic measuring tools. From there it gets crazy - different hole punches, line groovers, swivel knife, rotary cutter, better shears........... I think you get the idea. But remember - I make belts for other people so I use these tools a lot more than your average "make a belt for me" costumer would.
I will say this - every tool I own is used. So from my standpoint it is a good investment.

Like Saberbelt said ... I started with what I had, a mat knife used a drill for holes. When I started making more I bought tools as I go along ... My newest is a cutter that I can cut the belt widths from a whole hide, saves me trips to the leather store. My next project is to make TPM style pouches. I have a set, but the guy who made them has dropped off the face of the planet. I get emails on where I found them. So that is now my new “mission”.

Ah... well let me know what you find out! A set of TPM pouches would be awesome. I like the ones I have now, but that's always been "on my list" so to speak!
As far as tools go, I only have a rotary hole punch (which comes in handy way more than I expected... like adding holes to my husband's belt and the like), and the tool to set the rivets. I really should get leather cutting shears, but I haven't as of yet, scissors did the job, although it hurt my hands a bit. The right tools just make the job easier.
