So I was looking at the new Ultrasabers website and I noticed that they have something called "Ultra Stunt Optical Blades" - 1"OD x 3/4"ID x 32" Tall with solid polycarbonate blade tips and a sheet of fiber optic lighting medium instead of the typical diffusing paper used in other blades.
It sounded so cool that I bought one.
Of course, since it is thicker, the blade is heavier. The weight isn't a bad thing though (my spins seem faster, so I need to be a bit more careful). I'll try and take some comparison photos.

I just got one too, Kyle. It's all silvery. Looks hot.
Now if the master sabersmith would just get that Qu Rahn number completed so I can pop that bad boy in there...

A thick walled blade will be good for you then.
If you want that almost weightless feel get a thinwalled blade.
But Just to clarafyi theres nothing fiber optic about ultras blades.
Want to make an ultra blade? get the parts to make a blade from tcss, go to a craft store and get a roll from hell of celophane(sp, that stuff they use on smoke packs to seal them shut). Ultra uses 8 foot of this stuff. I would use 10-12 foot of it.
And there you have it. an ultra style blade. Just remember no matter what ultra calls it its not anything close to being anything fiber optic.

Not that it matters much, but I am old school. I LIKE the diffuser tube. It gives the base of the blade that flare that is seen in the photographs. That looks more like what I expect a lightsaber to look like when lit. The thicker walled blades are they way to go for dueling. They absolutely WILL NOT BREAK! I should know, I teach lightsaber dueling at the Orange County Saber Academy. We beat the HECK out of them.

Once my shoulder heals I'm toying with the idea of buying a new ultra saber (sort of a graduation gift to myself that I succeeded in getting repaired & healed).
I'm just wondering what the weight would be for the Luke ROTJ version--ultra saber.
I know the Luke ROTJ MR f/x is very light compared to the Obi-Wan or Mace Windu f/x. Any ideas or help please?
I already own the Luke MR f/x ROTJ & I really like it. But it would be nice if I could remove the blade but still have a complete saber w/ sound & just wear the hilt on my belt. I have a Random saber to but it's non-electrical & a bit heavy.

I bought one for my Obi-Wan MR F/X from Ultrasabers and I absolutely love it. It wasn't too difficult to do the conversion myself. I'm not sure how much heavier it will make the Luke ROTJ MR F/X though. I am planning to convert my Luke ROTJ, Mace, and Vader F/X's in the very near future.

As far as i know, converting doesn't add all that much weight. The blade may be a little heavier if you get a thick walled one, and you're replacing the plastic blade holder with an aluminum one, but I don't see it getting drastically heavier. You might notice the balance point shifting a few inches forward, but that's about it.

I love my Ultrasabers, I purchased two, one in red and one in blue. They're durable as can be as I've fallen into the pool with mine before. (long story there)

You do realize that this thread has been dead for 2.2 years, right?
When this thread first started, Ultrablades where brand spanking new... and pretty much unknown.
Now they are almost standard in people's conversions.
I have some myself, and like them. Their newer ones are even better then the ones from late 2007...
