I wonder if you could encapsulate th LEDs with some silicone potting compound. it may make it harder to damage the LEDs. that is a way some people are exploring, but think of the extra weight of that venue... I don't know for you, but a lightsaber blade is supposed to be lightweight. My Luxeon saber has a hollow blade. Its light as a fighting blade can be. It makes movement VERY comfortable and I really like that. MR are a bit heavier, but not ennough to be uncomfortable. I believe resin encapsulation would make a nice display piece, but wouldn't help in the dueling part.

This is true. It would weight it down.

I'm getting an FX modified via the Ultramod site. I've seen a site where it says that luxeon blades still have a power up and power down effect so I"m hoping that that will be the case. I"m getting an Anakin FX and having a purple blade instead of the blue. I've ordered the FX from Ebay so when it arrives will have to send it back to America to the guy who does the ultramods. I gave up on random sabers after having some communication issues with Ryan.

Farra Sti - when properly setup, you CAN have the extension/retraction effect. *Mine does*. It depends how the blade is made, and what driver is used. My driver also offers shivering upon another trigger - I did set mine on impacts, but moving the blade around sometimes trigers it (my sensors are sensitive) Its a shame you had problems with Randomsabers, having a custom saber is very thrillfull Good luck on your new ventures.

I don't know why so many people find the MR's fragile. I know that some of the original blades on the market (by MR? not sure) could actually shatter but the current range are very strong and perfect for dueling. As for the LEDs, I'm thinking that it may not be the impact causing the problem as LEDs are also very durable in and of themselves. Maybe some blades have defects in the lighting or something. As proof...I have a story for you. <lol> There once was a boy with a couple lightsabers and he decided to sell one of them since he didn't feel he needed it. So, he decided to sell his MR to another friend but at the BBQ where the sale was to take place, disaster struck. While everyone was wandering around the yard and goofing off, the host's bulldog was barking away at the end of his chain. Guess what? This bulldog LOVED sticks....and we have now discovered that he also loves lightsabers and will attack them at will(....especially when you turn them on with the sound and light). The bulldog pulled on his chain so hard that he snapped it and before anyone could say "May the force be with you", he'd grabbed the MR's blade in his powerful jaws and bit down. HARD. There are photos somewhere of the blade...bent, cracked but STILL intact. It looked so very sad, the dog really did a number on the poor thing. Additionally, even after such brutal treatment....it still worked. It still lit with all LEDs, made sounds and impact noises. Did I mention that this same MR had already been smacked brutally against other hard metal objects? Since then, the entire blade has been removed from the saber and the handle still works with all normal sounds. So yah, MR's are pretty hard wearing...bulldog tested!!

yes I agree that the current blades on MR are very durable.Me,Tanthos and Qui-Kel Jinn duel with ours all the time and we duel hard and haven't broken one yet (knock on wood).

I seriously have only heard of 1 (now I guess that's 2) actually breaking. I find them very durable and reliable. yet, the chicken I am I still have only just taken it out of the box to display it

I've seen only 1 or 2 *broken* blades BUT! I've seen SEVERAL sabers that have 1-2 or even more leds out. It gives a functional saber with a non-broken blade, but with "dead spots" in the blade. Sometimes more or less visible, but still.
In the end, it always is a personnal choice, but from what I see, if you want:
-a custom saber -a very durable and reliable blade that is REMOVABLE -a blade that is ultra light
you can go with Luxeon.
if you want -a display piece -a replica saber
you can go with MRFX.
