Bottom line is that MR sabers are definitely not meant for dueling- I have a friend who allowed his young son to swing his Luke Ep V saber around on Halloween. His son hit the saber so hard (against another saber) that the blade actually detached from the hilt. MR clearly states that their sabers are not for dueling- so it is really not too smart of them having a demonstration video of two guys going at it full tilt in a lightsaber duel. I collect them as working display pieces.

Yes it wouldn't have the power up and down effect. Im thinking of the luxeon LED plus only the blade that houses El wire.

Does the EL Wire Create a Power Up Effect?

No, you cannot create a power up or down effect with EL wire. It's either on, or off.

Im not talking about using el wire at all. All im saying is couldn't they take just the type of material they use to house the el wire polycarbonite and have the internals of the Master replica sabers instead of the soft polycarbonate MR uses for blades. Apparently there is a differnace in strength.

Does anyone have a pic of the "guts" of their MR Blade. I'm interested to see how it is made maybe we can figure a way to make a stronger blade that works the same.

Hey, thats really cool - if you get a conversion, you can remove and replace the blade. That pretty much dispells the only downside of the MR sabers. Does anyone know how much a conversion costs?
Oh but does that mean you dont get the power up/power down LED effect?

I am not certain how UltraSWG makes his blades, you should email him about that, but starting from that setup it is really possible to have a luxeon blade where you see a power-up/power-down effect. Mine does it, and it flickers on impact and saber-lock. The trick it to have the proper driver and interfaces. :-)

If anyone is curious, UltraSWG has a thread all about LED sabers over at TF.N's Jedi Council forum's Costumes and Props forum.
LED Blade Q and A's
I know a few of you are over at those boards, but I don't think a lot of the people here are.

I wonder if you could encapsulate th LEDs with some silicone potting compound. it may make it harder to damage the LEDs.

could be a bit of work as well as cost, I might try this conversion kit if my MR breaks *knocks wood*
