My lightsaber blade is hand-made with a Luxeon 1W led shining in a polycarbonate tube with a filter, and I believe it is brighter then the latest MR Anakin EP3 I've seen, which seams to be brighter then any EL I have seen so far. To give you an idea, this is a picture taken on halloween day in my office - you still can see the green from the light, even in daylight. Its a lot more impressive in the dark. This say, there's a lot of people that do EL saber for various reasons and prefers it, I don't want to say one is "better" then the other, but this is the path I chose and I never regretted it, even with newest product hitting the shelves.

Luxeon 1W led ---
I was just looking at led's like that... I need a brighter one for my saber, but I'm looking for a straight beam since I don't want a tube for this one.
And yes, MR FX sabers are brighter than your regular EL blade... in my opinion.

Leda: from what I experienced, the only way you could have a tubeless lightsaber would be with some laser... there are green "visible beam" lasers, yet the beam wouldn't stop and could be dangerous to the eye. with proper lens, there should be some possibility.
I have seen an aunction on ebay of such tubeless laser sabers with never-ending beam, but prefer being on the safe side and have something that cannot be harmfull.
Without anything to chime to, I don't think you'll be able to make a viable lightsaber concept with non-laser 2005 technology. If you have a foggy environment, smoke, or a tube to shine to... then its possible and even kind of easy. otherwise, good luck.

My father said with all the technology there are ways that a real lightsaber could be made.. He actually once boasted it could be done.. I didn't believ him..

Himiko: there is no technology that could make a lightsaber that is like in the movie: a beam of light that cuts trough metal and have a maximum lenght. There are tons of theories, but you should look into other threads for that.
Leda: you mean, only reflecting on the dust particles in the air? you will need VERY bright devices, and the power pack to something that bright might not be very accomodating... I believe this should be discussed in blade electronics.
Tai-Shon. I don't really like Parks as a businessman. Heard bad stories on how he managed to get his hands on a real MPP for darth vader lightsabers. Otherwise, the product seams cool, but its still EL.
hunterpred210: From what I have seen, the blue (anakin EP3) is really cool, but I haven't seen any recent red ones. The purple is apparently a colored diffuser to change the color of the led, instead of a purple led system. Go figure. This said, if you want to go handmade, the luxeon led system isn't that hard to achieve and the result is IMPRESSIVE....

I've been an EL advocate for years, but that's starting to change, with the super bright LEDs that are now available.
If you want a really bright blade, then LED is the way to go.
If you want to read more about making a saber like that for yourself, like Olos did (nice job, by the way! ), check out this thread over at TF.N: LED Blade Q and A's

I've never had any troubles with Parks Lightsabers. He makes them himself, and te workmanship si quite good. He's serviced/repaired mine when I send them in. He has made a newer generation of EL blades that are much brighter than the one I currently have. I think a t the time they used two 9 volt batteries, Weather they still do or he's tweeked it so it only uses one, I don't know. Hunter, parks does take a while to get you your saber for the folowing reasons. He's the only guy making them by hand, it takes about a week to construct one from start to finish, I think. Next he's constantly getting saber orders so he could be backlogged. it's ALWAYS good to give him a phone call and talk with him. He's a good guy and will work with you.

there is someone on ebay talking about Luxeon Powered LED Ultra Sabers He says he converted master replicas to a brighter blade. It can be removed, duled with and has digital playback sound. Does anyone own one of these is this too good to be true? Thanks

You can visit The Custom Saber Shop for someone who would convert a MR to a Luxeon removable blade. I have not seen the result, but generally Luxeon Led really does the trick, so I am certain it will look great. I know that the guy machines some cool products. He started doing that because a lot of people damages their MR blades and it is a pain to repair. Thanks Loreen for the compliment. I worked a lot on this saber, and UltraSWG is one of the guy with whom I shared tons of info before starting. This being said, I use a driver that does give me better battery life, extension and retraction effect, as well as battle clash and locking flashes. It makes everything a lot easier, and its not that much more expansive. I never regreted it, as the experience is really better. I got the driver from Corbin's Components. Joe a.k.a. Corbin Das LOVES working lightsabers and is a great guy to deal with. I got most of the blade technicalities from him, and he's always willing to help out.
