I want to make a new saber, but want a decidedly different look than my previous hardware saber, which was based on a Big Yellow Box design. It was too thick for my tastes, especially with my windshield wiper grips which added a half inch to the diameter. I really am aiming for something ultra sleek - very slim and long. I want it to be completely chrome, with details and grips filed in Tanzan Linnear's fashion. Any visible knobs and buttons would also be chrome. Please give me some help finding appropriately thin pipes, or any other ideas you might have. Thank you guys (and gals) so much!
Always, Crowen Grail

the thinnest pipe i think you can get a hold of is 1 1/4" piping that you can get at any hardware store. in fact i think that is what tanzan used for his.

I think I may have used the 1.5" for my previous saber. I might try various thrift shops to see if they don't have an old lamp with a thin pole or something. Wasn't there an online source that sold piping?

www.onlinemetals.com has just about any size diameter tube you could want. If you go with aluminum or stainless steel, you would need to polish the surface in order to get the chrome look. ~ Koda

Awesome, Koda, that's the exact source I was referring to. Luckily they sell tubing with very slim outer diameter dimensions. If I do go with aluminum or stainless steel, I'll definitely be polishing it.
I've never seen doityourself.com before, monkeyjumpgod, I'll have to check it out.
Thanks, both of you!

What are footman's loops? I tried to do a search on the site but came up with no results.
Does anybody have any advice on filing patterns onto the hilt? Filing straight lines seems simple enough, but if I get into curves I might have some difficulty. I wonder if an etching might be a more practical solution?

i used it to make a curved edge to a point, almost like a crecent. if you are patient and carefull enough, it will come out wonderfully.
