I know they're more money than most of us have (Believe me I had to give up things like food and gas for a while when I got mine) but does anybody actually own a Master Replicas saber?
Not an FX one, they're great fun and make lovely noises and feel pretty d**n close to the real thing...
I'm talking about the REAL sabers. the ones that cost $300 and weigh precisely one ton.
I would have thought this was the perfect place to find other MR fans, but as I also suspected, you guys adore your Parks sabers and ones you make yourself.
Seriously i salute anybody who makes thir own. It is indeed a Jedi's rite of passage and someday when i am ready i will make one for me.
But there must be one or two of you who skipped lunch and dinner for a month and bought an Episode II Obi Wan saber (and if you did I'm green with envy because those bad boys are selling for triple their original RRP on ebay).
So to start this MR appreciation (Or criticism; it's a free world) thread off i will name my collection...
1. Obi Wan: Episode III (My beloved, pride and joy, I worship this piece)
2. Darth Maul: Episode I
3. Han Solo: Episode V Blaster (Not a saber but boy is it pretty)
4. Luke Skywalker: Episode V FX Saber (An incredibly nice toy)
Anybody else, feel free to dive in.
Anybody who is wondering if these are worth buying i can only say, YES! The gormless look of adoration that crosses my face when I stand looking at my shelves is worth every penny I paid.

I kinda want one of those FX ones. Do you like yours, and do you duel with it?

Ah.... If you duel with these FX sabers... They break!!! I had a Luke Jedi Saber and an Anakin Clones Saber. I had the tiniest of brawls with a friend whom I told to "Go easy". He roared, he smashed, my blade broke... I cried. I didn't kill him but i wanted to. They are fabulous to swish around, but if you want to duel, it's Parks sabers all the way or Lightech Industries. They pride themselves on dueling ready blades. In all honesty the glow is pretty feeble by comparrison to the newer FX sabers and there is no sound (without expensive and complex add-ons) but hey, you can duel. So in summery. FX = No Duelee!

Wow, you actually own all of these? There are some who would say that MR sabers are overpriced and not accurate... But, I can understand that the price is due to the fact that they are a liscenced product. And, as far as accuracy is concerned, from what I understand, they're pretty darn close. The only MR saber I have actually held in my hand is the Obi-Wan Ep IV weathered saber, and I can tell you nothing I have seen since comes close to it's quality. It weighed a ton! Boy did I want that thing... I saw it in a comic book shop in New York City, but... there was always someone around to talk me out of it. Can you hear me saying "should have, should have" ? And your right, Parks/Lightech/homemade, whatever... they serve their purpose... but MR prop replicas are truly amazing. Now here's my question: Has anyone ever compared MR to ICONS? I'd like hear some comments on that. One of these days...

Yeah I do own all of those, although I often wonder why. ;D
I'm not sure how accurate/inaccurate they are.
The Maul saber for example, never existed in the film as a metal prop. The ones Ray Park used were resin with metallic paint. Stunt ones had red bezels PAINTED on so he wouldn't catch his little hands, what the MR version closely resembles is what Darth Maul's saber WOULD look like if it were an actual artefact.
An interesting contradiction.
I have never held an Icons but I've looked at them often on ebay and they look to be very similar in quality.
The main reason i pay the extra (The several thousand percent extra it seems) is that I adore accuracy to the movies. If I made my own, to me, it wouldn't look right. I'd always be thinking it looked slightly disproportionate or something.
I'm not a rich boy BTW, I just don't have any kids yet ;D

I am going to jump in here - there WAS a metal hero saber but it never saw screen time, to my knowledge, because it was way too heavy to wear... Not so much a bash as a critisism, MR sabers are way too chrome for my liking - but that is personal prefference. They are also paper weights, which serves a great purpose....you won't find many people wanting to wear an MR piece with a costume for fear of their belt and saber hitting the ground... I will say this, MR is much better quality than Icons, I have seen both, held both, examined both and I can say that MR is better Do I own any MR sabers? No. Will I ever own any MR sabers? No idea.... I have one of the most accurate sabers out there, a real Graflex flash gun converted to a Luke ESB saber. Doesn't get much more real than that Dave

Agreed, they are too heavy for costuming. i found this out when the difference in weight between my old Larbel Kenobi and my ney MR Kenobi had me forever fiddling with my belt the last time I was in costume. I was indeed worried about it flying off.
Does anybody know if the hero props in the movies (The most complex and detailed models for the extreme close-ups) were as heavy as the MR versions?

Agreed, they are too heavy to wear! I wouldn't buy it to wear it though. For display, and ooo-ing and ahh-ing only! I also have an authentic Graflex flashgun converted to a Luke ESB. To me, that's as real as it gets. And you're right... many of the MR sabers seem to try and reproduce what the sabers would look like if they were actual artifacts. An interesting contradiction indeed! But.... if you'll forgive me, I have to scream now... because I have been watching this ebay auction for about a week and it was going to bid on it this morning but I OVERSLEPT!!! cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6541480672&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1I have been looking for an accurate hero saber like this for a long time. I have a very nice Obi-Wan TPM saber but the end pommel is round, not sligtly oval as it is in this one, and the finish is slightly more polished on mine. Also, my emitter has a hole so I could convert it to el if I want, which I will do soon as I find another saber like this!!! It even had the purple hemisphere. Oh well.

You poor, poor man. I always hate it when ebay items slip through my fingers. If I see one while I'm on ebay I'll let you know.

I myself have always been searching for the AOTC Obi Saber by MR at a reasonable price. Now it's just ridiculous.
I'm hoping MR will see the cash-in and produce a TPM Limited Edition, basically the same saber but they aren't violatiing their contract. They could release it in conjunction with a never before seen MR Qui Gon saber.
(Hint Hint, if you're reading this.)

Ah yes, that was actually from the run I got in on - very accurate piece....I love it. ;D Sorry you missed bidding on it though, I know you would have truley appreciated the piece when you received it Dave But.... if you'll forgive me, I have to scream now... because I have been watching this ebay auction for about a week and it was going to bid on it this morning but I OVERSLEPT!!! cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6541480672&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1I have been looking for an accurate hero saber like this for a long time. I own 2 MR sabers. They are the least favbourite among the sabers in my collection, because they're all moulded together and nothing works and nothing can be taken apart, plus they're made in China.
Master Replica Darth Vader ESB Lightsaber Signature Edition (top) & ANH Limited Edition (bottom)
The only other MR sabers I would buy are those which can't be made from flashguns or existing parts, like the Dooku, Obi-Wan TPM and the Sidious...I have most of the rest and will probably try to get the Maul saber made when I finish redrawing the plans and can find a machinist crazy enough to take on the job...

Wow, that's a fine point. I guess a lot of Jedi here would like to unscrew their sabers and tinker with them. Surely that is indeed more realistic. Why buy TWO Darth sabers though. If you weren't too keen on the first? I know they are the ANH, Empire ones but the differences are so minimal it's hgardly worth splashing out twice unless you adore MR. Out of curiosity what's the rest of your collection like? Anything that can shunt the detail and special heaviness of MR to the back deserves a thorough look.

The only saber I might consider buying from parks would be the Obi Wan episode 3 one, but its still a bit expensive for me. Plus I hate the photos that MR provide of their products... they look like plastic. Do you have any close up pics of your Obi Wan firebrand?
