A lightsaber, yes, but for which aim?

well ok, having a good lightsaber is important in our costumes, and we see many way for this

non working hilts, just to hanging around on the belt
working hilts

DIY sabers, commercial sabers, officials sabers etc

to me the most important is having something that is really usefull an not being looking like big kid with toys in hands lol
that way, the official lightsabers are cool because they have a big and luminous blade, it's cool for pixs but look strange when off...
Ar CIII i saw many people walking when holding theirs sabers like the olympic torch, believe me it dont give a good image of jedi lol

the other ligtsabers like the one we build or the commercials ones (Parks, Lightech) allow blades to be took off of the hilt, it is interesting since you can get your saber on the belt, and hide the blade into the robe (and it's almsot invisible

i made a show in front of a philharmonic horchestra in a dark theater room and it was realy nice

and for photo shooting, a "balde" recovered with 3M reflective tape, people have a nice saber blade live on their film, if they have a good flashlight ^_^

on another side sometime we can use our hilts like a tool, something that give to our costume a real plus that other cant do, i mean fights!

we are currently sometime doing some demonstrations for shows, and practicing some things that i hope to being able to put on shorts video to share

for this we are especially aware of what it's good to get, and home made blade are the best, none of the park or lightech ones are made for this, they are too beatifull but not ready to match each hard chocs
two strips blade cant have hard bents that the parks cant suuport, the lightech are too loud...
your point of view on the question??

My point of view is that, I have a saber for every season. one for dueling, one really nice one for display on my belt, a modified Fx saber for pictures, and a plastic saber to whack my nephews when they whack me.

Then there is the Graflex, and Mpp....show case sabers...

The Parks are pretty tough; not just for show. The MRs are good for show, especially with the sound effects, but I wouldn't put them through much punishment. Plumbing parts sabers are good to wear with the costume, and have the added benefit of being light weight for wearing with your costume all day. Hasbro sabers are good for cheap, tacky gags.

BTW, JediKai uses a tabletop wine-rack to display her saber hilts. It looks pretty good if you can find one!

Target carries the table top wine rack. That's where I picked up the one that I use for my display.

I agree with what you said about Jedi carrying their sabers like torches and how ugly it looks... Jedi generally try not to call attention to the fact that they are Jedi... maybe I should even make a poncho as an official part of my costume.

Seriously though, my saber hangs on my belt, under my robe, it is an essential part of the costume, but I only flash it wround when I need to (what? you want a picture? FFTZZZZZZZ!) or when someone asks about it.

I want a duelling saber though, I might get a random saber or something for that, later on down the track.

I have a bladeless that hangs from my belt... it has a blue l.e.d. inside... basically it's a fancy blue flashlight.

I also have 2 el sabers with removable blades for dueling... a MR el... for twirling in the dark... lol, and the really nice prop replica in the display case...

Like Mugen said... "a saber for every season"... but I you can only have one... I would say a saber with a removable el blade would be the most versatile choice.

For CIII I crafted a sling for my EL blade. I made sure that the material matched that of my robe so if the wind caught the robe, the sling wouldn't be too obvious. I actually got quite a few compliments on it.

I own an RLSA saber that I wear on my belt, and two MR FX sabers for pictures.
