As some of you may have seen in the props section I made my own version of saber 4 from big yellow box I am now working on Saber 3 it will have the metal hanger type bars from saber 8 near the black cooling vents on the emitter The other thing I wanted to say is a bought a tubing cutter simply because I now enjoy making sabers and it works great if you cut slow and turn the tube easy as not to scratch the nickle plate if anyone does not have tools and would like one of the styles from big yellow let me know I would be glad to help a fellow Jedi along in completing their costume also take a look at the gallery for big yellow yellowboxgallery.tripod.com/

I am making style 8 saber with a twist. Do any of you have any ideas how to put a blade on it? I have an old golf club that I broke and a exhaust manifold stud welded on the big end and it looks like a pretty good blade. A little thin for the camera maybe but cool.

as another character from another universe would say, "the right tool for the right job" the tube cutter is an excellent tool for saber building. it will also cut PVC and polycarbonite blade tubes as well. i also picked up the smaller version for small tubes. another really good tool to pickup is a dremel. these are both good for making prop sabers. to go further than that you need a soldering iron. if you have any questions let me know and will be glad to lend a fellow jedi a hand.

to anyone making their own hardware saber i found this quite by accident the newer nestle`s quick bottle has a blue cover that makes a great grip (using many in unison) or a good pommel end for grip you would have to open the end but it looks like it would fit 1 1/2 or 1 1/4 nickel plate sink tubing it kinda looks like obi wans (ANH) lawnmower gear in his saber

I did something similar to this with my saber. My dad is a pharmacist I have access to a lot of pill bottles. (Not ot mention all my hubby takes I found the size to go over my saber end, painted them black and glued them flat side to flat side and them glued one of the open ends to my saber (see the photo on TJA main page for me and my equipment.) I think it worked pretty good.

Big Yellow Box is great. The only problem for me being that I have no job and am not old enough to drive...great. Yet, I managed to save some mula and am going to start working on style VII. It seems the be the only one fit for dueling according to his Introduction. Plus, double-sided is just plain cool.

As some of you may have seen in the props section I made my own version of saber 4 from big yellow box Greetings Syn-Kai-Jinn! I am building a version of saber 4 as well. Everything is completed except for the pommel. I will be using the gas cap that was recommended but I don't know how to cover or hide the image of the gas can on the top of the cap. How were you able to get around this?

It seems to me like you should be able to grind or sand it off. But never having tried it, I don't know for sure.

The problem that I'm facing is that the image of the gas tank is indented into the cap. An idea that I've been thinking about is filling the image in with model putty, sanding it, and then painting over it. I just don't know if it will look ok at the end of the process.

Ry`lux myself i used a different pommel to stray from being the same as the big yellow box version 4 but as you have thought filling the image in would work may suggest you use say body filler (bondo) but ruff up the spot first and finsih with a fine sandpaper
I do autobody work for a living so any question you may have about paints ,glues , fillers i can help ya with i do suggest you prime the area you worked too after you fill it
in my version i used a shower knob mine has a small LED in the emmitter end so the cap that covered the screw to hold the shower knob on was now my power cell door (smile)

What type of filler would you recommend then for this situation? Is there something out there that would be better than the filler sold at hobby stores? Nice idea for using the shower knob by the way.
