I know I've been away for far too long, but we've just spent BILLIONS of dollars upgrading our ER, making it entirely mobile, wireless, and (almost) paperless, so, needless to say, I've been busy. But it was worth it! Not only was the extra money really needed, but the new system was seriously needed! Anyway, I'm back, and I'm ready for DragonCon '07. Woohoo! My costume is finally being repaired, and I will have a full picture to apply for full membership shortly (I promise!). In the meantime, may the Force be with you.

Now...I am a Jedi, unlike my father before me....
I've finally been approved as a full member! I'm soooo thrilled...there are so many ppl to thank...where to begin....
I've got to thank Barbara, my co-worker from back in the day, for being like a surrogate mom to me and making the Jedi costume in the first time...A big "thank you" goes to Michelle for correcting said costume and fixing some (glaring!) mistakes...Many pounds and ounces of gratitude go to Ultrasabers for their kickin' (and durable[!]) sabers; my lightsaber is one of the coolest and best props EVER, and it's everything and then some that they promised it would be...Thanks to costumebay and eBay for the belt and boots, without which, I might never be a Jedi.
Whew! That's a lot of ppl! Now, if I could just learn to sew, I might be able to make some of the modifications to the costume for upgrades that I learned @ DragonCon. Thank you, Mon-Jas for showing me the hidden machinations of the sash, cuz that is the one piece that is driving me nuts, and thanks to Leda for showing off the tabbards. I'm going to work on making the tabbards one, solid piece, making for easier dressing, and I'm going to devise a way to attach the sash to the tabbards OR add to the sash and make it tie around the front as Mon-Jas demonstrated @ the "Jedi Inside and Out" panel @ DragonCon '07. Thanks, guys, I mean it.
Boo-yah!

Glad you're finally official! Wish I'd realized it was you talking about upgrading the ER when I met you at D*C. I also work at a hospital in a system that has gotten a lot of positive publicity for a world-standard, completely integrated electronic medical record (everything from Wall St. journal to medical journals to NY times). www1.va.gov/VHA_OI/www1.va.gov/vha_oi/docs/Computerized_Patient_Record_System.pdfI've been using it for about a decade and would never go back.

Happy New Year!
Okay, so I'm a little behind the times now. Unfortunately, the end of last year was unusually hectic for me. I've moved into a new position @ my hospital (Reimbursement Specialist in Insurance Follow-Up), which means new hours, and (almost) a new life (or, @ least, new social schedule, let's say, yes?); I've had my wisdom teeth removed, so me not so smart no more...it's an old joke that I've been beating into the ground with the hilt of my lightsaber for the past week, but I've gotten it out of my system, so you won't have to put up with me trucking it out ever again; and I've re-discovered a lot of my old toys which (I thought) were lost in Katrina.
Now I have two (small) boxes full of Star Trek toys and toy props, a few action figures, and a couple of old T-shirts to deal with, and the memory of them is tearing me apart a little bit. My mom, apparently, had not ventured into our upstairs closets in the 2 years since Katrina, so a lot of stuff that wasn't destroyed in the flood was destroyed by mildew, but all that wasn't, she salvaged. I had just come to terms with the loss of my material goods, and now the memory of this sh%# is killing me just a little bit @ a time....
...d**n....
Anyway, I'm checking in, and wishing all of you the best. I won't be such a stranger now that my professional and - out of necessity, really - social lives have settled down nicely into an even flow.
May the Force be with you all!

That sounds like a hard job....wrangling payments out of insurance companies? Hope it's either better hours and or better pay!
I'm sorry. Detaching from sentimental possessions is a challenge few of us have mastered. I'm struggling with what to do with some items my father made but I no longer need or use (and that no one else would either).
Hope all is better for you this year.

Hi, Larwi. At first I thought you were new, and then at page 3 I realized you've been around for a while. But still, always great to hear of a Trekkie that's seen the light. Great writing, too! It's always nice to find someone else who shares a love of the written word. I'll get around to writing more one of these days. I really like your robes. They look really sharp with the grey and the white. Very regal looking. What is the outer robe made out of?

Thanx, Kai-Thri; things are going better for me now. Sentimental attachments to inanimate objects is not logical...but it happens.
Cozmo, yes, I, too am a Trekkie and fellow scribe. I wish I could tell you what the robe was made out of, as I have gotten a lot of compliments about it in my relatively short career as a Jedi. Alas, it was something I scooped up out of a rack @ the crafts department @ Wal-Mart. I didn't bother to read the label to discover what it was; all I knew was that I liked the color - it fit into the requirements of earth tones for the Assembly, as well as differentiated itself nicely from the tones I was using for the rest of my costume - and when I picked it up, I liked the weight and texture. Someone with a better eye for materials and textiles will have to weigh in on it.
Anyway, until next time, may the Force be with you all!

I leave Katrina in the Deep South only to run into a random hail storm in the MidSouth....
It's one natural disaster after another...fortunately, no one was hurt, and my GMC Jimmy made it out with relatively few scratches...just lots of tiny dent marks. One whole side of the house looks like Swiss Cheese, but things are moving along, and soon - hopefully - we'll have contractors out here replacing and repairing broken windows and shattered siding.
May the Force be with you.

Ze Fro Sirav, I'm glad I was able to help you. By the way, I love your icon; I think that statue of Obi Wan in Jedi-Trooper armor is one of the best EVER! It is absolutely the coolest thing I have seen...and your quote is right on target....
I'm sorry it's taken so long to respond, but I keep forgetting about checking my own introduction page when I log on. Anyway, I didn't really participate too much this year @ Dragon*Con, and I'm not sure why. Part of me was feeling very lethergic toward costuming this year b/c I had failed to make the upgrades to my costume in a timely fashion...I have been extremely lazy this year! I found an old journal, and in it, there was an entry dated 4/30/08 that said, "Begin work on Jedi costume upgrades."
That obviously never happened.
Maybe if I knew how to sew, this wouldn't be so difficult, and if my mom was available to actually help me with this, I wouldn't have to depend on my friends who are sewing-capable. I love my friends greatly, but they're all very tardy when it comes to actually working on a sewing project I present them with, which then makes me tardy. My friend just now handed my outer tunic back to me, proclaiming that she had hemmed the sleeves. She did, but it's already been a couple of months since Dragon*Con has come and gone! Oy! Anyway...I just needed to vent.
Good luck with the costume, Ze Fro, and may the Force be with you...always!
