Well, a lot has happened since I first posted here, and we have a gained a lot of new people since then, so I thought I would update my thread with new info!
I moved back to Florida in 2002 to start a PhD program at the University of Miami, and in 2008 I FINALLY got my doctorate. Unfortunately, I realized in the middle of the program that I did not like the lifestyle of a researcher, even though I love science. However, my husband and my mentor encouraged me to finish, so I did...and at least I followed it through and have a degree that I can use to further my career! I thankfully found a happy middle ground, and found a job that allows me to use the knowledge I gained in school, and help other scientists with their research. So I get to work in science, but I have a normal 9-5 job, with weekends off, I don't have to spend all of my spare time reading papers, and I get the satisfaction of helping others with their research. So, I guess it all worked out in the end!
Getting my degree also brought other changes, and allowed my husband to start pursuing his music career again (he is a guitar player). He is currently in a Pink Floyd tribute band, so I have been spending lots of time in dark, smoky bars lately, being the roadie and supporting wife. Hopefully that will take off for him soon!
In the meantime, I have continued costuming, and joined my local 501st Garrison around 2 years ago. My squad is very cool, and I have the freedom to costume in either my Jedi or my 501st costume, so I get to represent both groups within my community. I also finished my husband's Anakin (ROTS) costume, which he troops in all the time, both as "good" Anakin, and "Vader" Anakin. This year CV is in my backyard, which is awesome, and I am looking forward to both the TJA and 501st costuming activities I will be able to participate in there!
Currently, I have no children, but two dogs (a German Shepard and a Belgian Malinois). I also somehow managed to get a cat...I say that because my husband is a dog person, and I never thought he would let me have a cat. My Shepard flushed her out of a bush one day, and she was so small and sickly, that we couldn't leave her!! She was three months old, and only weighed 14oz. We couldn't resist, and nursed her back to health, and now she is a healthy little girl, who gets along great with the dogs, and rules the roost!! Now, if only I could convince him to get another one...
Hmmm...that's about it! Oh yeah, and I lost 40lbs and dyed my hair blond (LOL, going through a little bit of a mid-life crisis I guess). So I don't look like my sig picture any more!!
