My name is Shannon Opiela. I currently live in North Carolina and am a graduate student at Appalachian State University. I have been married for ten years to my wonderful husband Scott. Star Wars actually brought us together, and it is awesome to be married to someone as fanatical about it as I am. I have been a SW fan since 1977, when my mom took me to the first movie. I didn't really start collecting until ROTJ came out, and I fell in love with Luke Skywalker!! Like an idiot, I gave away all my Star Wars stuff in college, before I meet Scott . I have no idea what possessed me to do that! Thankfully, Scott had a lot of SW stuff, and over the past few years we have become collectors. It wasn't until we decided to attend Celebration II that I seriously thought about having a Jedi costume. There was never any question that I would be anything but a Jedi!!!! Through my research on Jedi costumes I meet the members of the Jedi Council, and they are awesome! These are the first friends I've had who love SW as much as I do, and who are so willing to talk about everything SW. It has been a great experience . Feel free to email me if you have any questions about making a costume yourself, especially if you are having problems and are frustrated! I know EXACTLY how you feel!!!! And check out the costume links, they are great!

That is really cool that SW brought your husband and you together. I wish I had collected things as I was growing up. My wife and I were brought together by the SCA. She introduced me to it and now we are married. I hope you the best. And thank you for helping with this site. It is amazing.

Hi I would like to know what materials should be used to make the the tunic & are there any patterns out there to make the tunic & if so where do I get them. At C3 I wore brown pants & they seemed fine. Or would it be better to have the pants made for the costume? I was given a couple of sites to look for for getting a better lightsaber & utility belt but since I've come home & unpacking I can't seem to locate the places so any help would be appreciated. Thanks Janqui

LOL, thought I should update this a little....my first post is very out of date!! Currently I am back in my home state, sunny, sunny Florida. We moved back to South Florida in June 2002 so I could go to graduate school at the University of Miami. I have spent the last 5 1/2 years working on my Ph.D., and I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel!! I should be done by the end of April, if all goes well. School has prevented me from doing as much costuming as I would like. Actually, it pretty has kept me from having any kind of a life outside school . But, I have finally gotten a chance to do some trooping with our local 501st squad over the past few months, and I am having a blast! It has inspired me to start working on a new Anakin costume for my husband, as well as make some new tunics for myself. Plus, I am working on clonetrooper armor for myself, so I can do more events. Here's me and my husband at a recent event:
