Toss and Xana...right there with you. I have to wonder what other hobby would be crammed floor-to-ceiling in my office at home, what would I be wearing this Halloween, how much money would I have in the bank?...now that part is depressing! ;D

Speaking of DVD's and bank accounts... I had reserved my copy at Toys R Us in the town where my office is, expecting to be able to drive right over and pick it up when the store opens. Then I put in for vacation next week, to build a porch on my house, and I realized I won't be here on Tuesday, but 40 minutes away at my home. So...I went last night to Toys R Us in my town and reserved another copy. I'm hoping the first one refunds my $5, but either way, it's worth it to have it at 0900 on Tuesday.

Something tells me you won't be porch building on the 21st. I'll be hanging out in Jedi costume at the Times Sq. Virgin Megastore with a bunch of others from RL Echo Base.

Cool beans Nova...are you going at Midnight? I will be thinking of you as Midnight approaches an hour later here in Chicago.... I will be in costume at the Best Buy on the North Side of Chicago for their Midnight Madness event.....

I did a quick look around here in AZ. There is no club that will be doing anything like you guys are doing. Oh well. I couldn't go anyway. I have this flu that is kicking my butt. My voice is gone and my head is killing me.

The Virgin Megastore here in Salt Lake City wants us costumed folks there for 10 p.m. action on Monday night & then again at 5 p.m. for a party on Tuesday. Oh, and getting back on topic, I did see Empire of Dreams. It was very interesting.

Nova, I probably would take "extended breaks" from the porch, but my dad is taking valuable time to help me so it would be tough to leave him out there alone. I guess I could "go get a drink of water, Dad." or "Would you like lunch, Dad?" and just get a peek here and there. It will definitely be a long day!

Well, I picked up my Star Wars Trilogy DVD collection earlier today, but spent the entire afternoon playing my rented copy of SW: Battlefront, which is pretty decent, but would probably be a lot better on-line than in single player.
In any case, after I spent some time doing some actual studying this afternoon, I sat down and watched "Empire of Dreams." I had heard a lot about this from other fans, as well as in the presentation from Mary Franklin at Dragon Con. Let me just say that I was very impressed with the amount of work that was put into this documentary. Having never seen any documentaries like this (except for one or two for Episode I), I was amazed. I really had absolutely no idea the amount of stuff that Lucas had to slog through to get even the sequels made!
I also have to say that while watching this, I finally understood why Lucas wanted to do the Special Editions. A lot of people, including myself to some extent, will say that Lucas did it just to make more money from the franchise, to build up the hype for Episode I that was released 2 years later.
But I think also that Lucas' desire to improve on these terrific films, movies that were made with a sliver of the budget of the screen titans of today, is genuine and sincere. I think that given the amount of frustration he had to endure to get these films made give him the right to do whatever he pleases. Also, it is abundantly clear that he didn't have the money to do what he truly wanted to. The technology was there; ILM proved that in Episode V. But the funding and the support from the studio was, well, rather lacking.
In any case, while I've never really been the biggest fan of the Special Edition (don't even get me started on the Yuzzum musical number), I at least now have some understanding of what Lucas was thinking when he decided to append to these great films.
Now, I just need to rustle up some time to watch the movies!

ditto...
and even one of our local hard-core EP1 and Special Edition haters is even re-considering his stand...
I think that Lucas' intent is sincere....he truly wanted HIS vision on the screen..... and it was clear that Star Wars almost never got made if "regular" Hollywood had anything to do with it....
