Well, for my girlfriends birthday I reserved her a copy of the OT on DVD. We went and picked it up yesterday and watched the first two movies. When I was watching the first movie, during one sequence when han and luke are fighting off ties in the falcon, theres these really cruddy red and green boxes around the tie fighters. My only explanation for this is that its some lame attempt to be the targeting system or something. Has anyone else noticed this? I cant see why just my TV would do it. I mean this looks bad. I cant see how this could be a mistake, as they cant have missed something that big. This can also be seen slightly at the end when vader's tie goes into the tranch of the star (green haze around him). Also, in episode V (I think) when Han goes into the asteriod field to lose the star destroyers... When the falcon goes through a canyon the lighting changes and gets very blue, and when a tie explodes half the screen goes black. Maybe its just my DVD player and/or TV... everything else looks excellent, but I'm disappointed about these other things... I mean we payed HOW MUCH for this?... and these werent even problems in the VHS.....
Sorry if this isnt the right forum to post this in, I couldnt find a more appropriate one.

Hello!! It not the DVD player it's the disc it self! Over at Starwars.com they have a thread alreadly 67 pages about problems on the ANH most common problem being that chapter 27 skips and When Luke is using his saber on the Falcon has a green lightblade!
THe list continues as to the many problems on the IV disc. One thing suggested was playing with the contrast as to get rid od the boxes around the TIE Fighters! MTFBWY

That sucks.
You shouldn't have to mess with the contrast on your tv to make those boxes go away.

Another thing, just because somethings a DVD, doesn't mean you won't get problems with them. many are mass produced. If something is wrong, keep your receipt and take it back to get another. No one should have a bad DVD when this is one you are owning. Shoot, I've had bad DVDs when renting and take back and get another to watch. JMD PS Worse DVD problem I've had was buying Terminator 2 and the scan label was merged with the DVD. Took back, got another, no problem.

Mine are fine. The only thing that seems wrong is that Greedo still shoots slightly before Han.

Well there sure thing that they haven't removed, like went Vader is chasing Luke in the trench, you can see the eyes of Dave Prowes, and the sound is good, but there is slight changes each so often in the conversations, like background sound louder, softer...(ex: aunt Beru and Owen). Still the work done is great, hopefully they'll have it perfect for the six HD-DVD set...!!!

Did you run the set up for the THX optimizer before you view ANH?

Well don't you have to have THX certified stuff for that option to work? I just got a panasonic TV and DVD player, nothing exeptional.

I didn't notice the skip at the end of Chapter 27 on the Episode IV disc until after I read the post here. So yeah, it's there on my set, as well. I initially attributed this to the notion that it was simply the momentary pause that almost always occurs on DVDs with dual-layer formatting, which is pretty much every DVD these days. The reason that i assumed this was that it happened at right about the halfway mark of the film. However, when I played my Empire Strikes Back DVD, I didn't notice anything like that.
Regarding the targetting boxes, I haven't seen them, but that's because the two times that I've watched the movie, I've missed that particular scene. I've got this really bad habit of playing the DVDs while I'm working on homework, so I'm not always watching it. I did notice, however, the green lightsaber of Luke in the Falcon's lounge.
This will need further review, of course. I mean, I've only watched each film three times or so in the month I've owned the set!

I've seen some of the things mentioned here, but the only killer is Luke's saber on the Falcon when they're on their way to Alderaan... It was very greenish in hue!
So I got some Light Blue Correction Fluid from an office supply store and put it on the screen... Fixed it right up!

I watched ANH again looking closely for the flaws (which I normally don't) and did see them this time. OK the lightsaber thing is bad, but can't you just ignore the boxes?
