The young man in question publicly stated that SW was real and that stormtroopers were clones and when others politly started debating him on these and other subjects he became profane and would not listen to the leaders when they tried talking with him. It is really quite sad, he finally got banned from the board. He was not on the main board, he was on a sub-board for one of the garrisons.

that is rather sad..... with all the REALLY bad things that are going on in our world today you would think that people would get a grip.... I like to lose myself in the Star Wars universe sometimes just because I want to get away from the REAL "wars" that are currently being staged...my escape. As always, the extremists seem to ruin everything....

If anybody goes to www.theforce.net the article on Jedi-ism being an official religion in England is posted. Basically, England had a census and if a certain percentage of the populus said that they declared a religion as theirs, it would be officially recognised. The result is 3 out of every 1,000 people in England follow "The Jedi Faith". Spooky...

This post isn't pointed at anyone, but just in general......I say, leave them alone and let them follow the faith they want to....I don't see what is so wrong with it anyway. They want to start out fresh...I don't know about religion in the UK, but here in the States, I am embarrassed by the anticks of our "leaders of faith". Religion is the biggest money maker of all time and I for one have given up on organized religion after reading about as many as I could. Even in the church I grew up in, our minister told one lady that she wasn't giving enough and she had to give at least 10% of her salery or she couldn't come. She was heartbroken and quit...I quit shortly after...Even an in-law of mine was told she wasn't giving enough in a Catholic church she was raised in. Her family quit that church.
So far no one has even investigated the Jedi religion except to say that there is one. Even though the Jedi religion is from the big screen, the philosophy has been around for generations....I feel that most religions started out with that philosophy and got sidetracked with power and the hunger for money. George Lucas didn't invent that way of life....he expanded on it because he feels it is a good way to live and tacked a name to it.....But because it is a movie, we are supposed to laugh at that way of life and criticize wanting to live in the way of being kind and loving and non violent to everyone? Well, this is the way I believe life should be. I raised my children this way even if I didn't call it Jedi Religion...I applaud these people for standing up and saying, we like this way of life and we want to follow it under the name of religion...They just choose to give George Lucas the credit for inventing it.........

:-) Gemme some of those 'mellows.<G> As withanything, there is always a balance. Yeah there are going to to be over the top jugheads who misuse the milign God's Word for their own devices, and that isn't pleasing to God to begin with. The Church is there to help the widows, fatherlessetc, and each others around them, TO bea Lightin it's communicty. NEVER to be something that robs it's constituants. That makes me sad to hear that. According tothe Bible,True "religion" is helping the weak, widowed, and the fatherless. Giving of your resources to help another being in need. To Love God with all your heart, mind soul being and loving your neighbor as yourself.(Even if your neighbor can be a pain. )

Like others here, I reject the idea of "religion." What I embrace, I call "faith." I have lots. ;D

ya, the basis for the jedi was a certain type of judyism (i duno how to spell it, its just a jewish branch religion). There is also rakeology, kenesiology, + many others. I dun think that all thoes UK people were prankin, coz a lot of people do believe in the specific phelosophies that the jedi hold true. emitera, wat u said about people bein told they rn't givin enuf to the catholic church makes me sick. No offense to catholics, but i think that religeon has become corrupt. molestations, theft, when will it stop. on a lighter note, *i throw a mashmallow at emitera* SQUISH!

Like Ephanie said, what's important is faith. No one should control that or make it their law to rule the faith of others, which in my opinion is what has happened to most organized religions today. Over the decades many of them have taken the first word rewritten it and twisted it to meet their own objectives. Many so blindly follow because they need to believe in something. I wish all the population would start beliveing in themselves ....but as I remember in my church...it was branded "New Age" and of course branded as the devil's work and you weren't supposed to think for yourself. God gave us free will, and many religions think free will is beliveing in what they are promoting... that is why I have abondoned it. To me; and this is just my opinion, but if you watch the televised church services, it to me resembles the World Wrestling Federation with all the glitz and glamor......I personally don't need or want that. *Em looks around for the marshmellow that Xavior threw*

[glow=blue,3,0000]Um... I know I probably sound like an idiot, but what do they believe in? Is it the Force, themselves, or something else? 'Cause everyone knows the Force is made up, and there's no reason to worship yourself unless you're a narcissist. (Like me. ;D) Really though, I thought religion was about worshipping the All Powerful Being who started it all. Someone can't just make one up, or they'd have defeated the whole purpose.[/glow]

George Lucas's Movie Force Religion is made up, although he did invent it from looking at all religions. He took the one thing they all had in common and used it... There is a force in the cosmos and everyone feels it differently. Some call it God. Everyone should follow their inner feelings as to what it is. Individual Force is not how you view religion, it is how you view your life and how you live it. We are all here in this forum because we feel that there is something better out there and we choose to persue it as a hobby. Unfortunately most of us would love to give up everything and live as a Jedi as in GL's movies and novels, but we all know that society would make fun of us and society even tries to generate it as a cult status. Most religions are closed minded when it comes to faith. As long as you feel they way they do you're ok, but when you step out of their norm....you're a cultist....
The people that have embraced GL's Jedi as a religion, are pulling from their own inner selves and bringing out the good in their hearts. They have had this feeling their whole lives and sometimes it takes a story teller to bring it out. Granted, some take it a little to far which makes it hard for the rest of us that also know this feeling.
I feel that all religions started out this way...to be good and help others and to unite for love of life. They all got sidetracked with the power they were given and their own agendas became prevelent.
I however, believe that everyone should follow their own hearts and religion of their choice. If going to a church or temple help's you, then that is what you should do. It is your choice and no one should interfere with that. I for one, prefer to draw on my own inner force and live the best I can. I feel there is a greater force out there and in each one of us. It is everyone's own decision whether it is used for good or bad.
Although the "Living Force" has been around from the beginning of time, and because it was given life in a movie, it is deemed crazy...but when you look closely, as I has stated above, ALL religions started with this belief.....they have just forgotten.
Sorry, I rambled again. I believe to answer your question....Jedi followers believe in harmony with nature and each other and uphold the love of life.

[glow=blue,3,0000]I see. They didn't create a new religion, they renamed Buddhism. Here I thought they were trying to make a religion as in "western religion". You know, with a God? That would have been stupid.
Did you used to be Catholic? I'm guessing because most of the stuff you said about religion applied to them.[/glow]
