Hi all, Ok, I've finally got a decent quality Jedi costume on order. Now I'm looking for a Jedi costume/re-enactment group in the u.k to join. I know there's the U.K garrison, though I'm unsure of whether they have a dedicated Jedi group, and whenever I go to their site it is always under going reconstruction (for months now!). Anyone know of any groups active in the u.k. I'm looking for groups that meet/do conventions/actually get to wear the gear, not just net groups. Any help would be much appeciated.
Thanks,
RIAS MARN.

What site are you actually visiting for the UKG ? I know the website itself is still under construction but the forum is fully working. www.ukgarrison.com/forum/index.phpafaik there arent any other groups that do jedi costuming in the UK. There are individuals and small groups of friends that attend scattered conventions but no other group goes as a cohesive unit. Please be aware though that to join the UKG you must pass the groups own costume standards. This applies to whatever costume your applying for, imperial, rebel or movie and the UKG has a reputation of being pretty picky when it comes to costume and the way its members act while in costume, almost obssesive some will say. Personally I like the really high standards required and the fact that because of that we get all sorts of real cool events, often at the invitation of LFL etc but its not for everyone. Best thing is have a look on the public forum, read through the rules thouroughly and if you decide its for you then submit your costume for clearance. Once cleared you can then read and post in the members only areas. The other thing to do is come to an event with the group there and meet and chat to people. Face to face is always better.

Thanks for the reply Jeffrek. I 'll take a look at your link. I'm having a costume made by MPM, they look like reasonable quality from the pics. Do you know if that's the sort of standard they look for?.
I'm hoping to bump into the UKG at the leicester space centre do at the end of the month, or at the theme park film day next month. I hope to chat to a few of them then.
Thanks again,
Rias Marn.

If you have an MPM set then Id say it shouldnt be a problem as about 70% of the Jedi members have bought them from Martin (he's a UKG member too). Then again some of us didnt and made our own Have you got your sabre sorted out yet ? I notice you have a design in the other forum. You going hardware or having it machined once you have the design finalised ? Martin does the Parks range but they can take awhile to arrive if Martin doesnt have the model you want in stock or he uses a couple of friends of mine that make custom sabres. It helps to have your own machining facilities for these little projects. Unfortunately I cant make it to the NSC event as Im at a 600 player airsoft weekend game but I should be at the themepark movie day. Dont forget Memorabilia on the 13-14th august at the NEC too.

Thanks Jeffrik. I didn't realise Martin was in the UKG. I would have loved to do my own costume but honestly, it would be nowhere near good enough to use for anything other than halloween . I have a copy of obi wan's epII in black that a guy in the states made for me, but it's not really good enough to join the UKG with. Unfortunately, I doubt I'll have the MPM one in time for either of the shows I mentioned earlier as Martin is waiting for material and the boots take longer anyway. I have a number of MR sabers in my collection, as well as an arc wave on order from parks. I have also finished the D.I.Y one. Despite having the others I really wanted to build one myself as Jedi are supposed to make one as part of their training, it seemed the right thing to do . It is a MR Luke's (blue) with a obi wan style tap knob on the bottom and a sink hole (door spy hole in the centre) in place of the blade. I also added a couple of plug sockets in place of the fake ones. it's a little long for use (14.5") so I just have it on display. I have to admit, I'm very chuffed with it. I'm not good at D.I.Y, but it's turned out better than I could have hoped. I would be interested in having a few costom ones made too in the future. I've done paintball, but never tried airsoft. It looks great. I used to do vietnam era re-enactment and considered replacing my blank firing weapons with airsoft ones. unfortunately, I never had the cash at the time. I guess it's too late now with the way the gun laws are going in this country. - At least, they haven't banned lightsabers - yet Thanks for the NEC reminder, I had forgotten that one. I hope I'll see you for a chat at the theme park. Cheers, Rias Marn.
