Hey, I've been thinking....which can be a bad thing Everyone here seems to like meeting up and/or meeting for the first time. C3 seems like its going to be a blast but I also know not everyone will be able to make it, yours truly. The one thing my Stargate group has started doing is Mini-Cons, which is great, though I was thinking something maybe slightly grander or social. Something where we could all, or mostly all meet up and get to know one another, show off our sabers and costumes, talk about patterns, fabrics, customization etc. Just an idea I had, and if it is something that could work that would be awesome. If its a pipe dream thats ok too, but I thought I would throw it out -Justin

You mean, just the group itself, all getting together in one place?
We were talking about that about a year ago and not enough people were going to be able to make it. It's hard, having a membership spread out over such a large area. Our travel budgets seem to be devoted to major cons.

Exactly. Though Travel budgets usually can cost much for conventions and such, its not like we would have admission or merchansise etc... I guess if its an idea already been tried and failed...oh well

We tried. Gave it a good shot, too! It didn't fly. Yes, good idea, but it turned out not to be practical.

The best substitute I've seen for an arranged meeting is zeroing in on a larger event that people are already going to and having a mini-meeting around that. You are dependent on the schedule of the larger event (like, we can't figure out when we can have dinner at CIII until a schedule is released), but you can usually work around it. The best types of events for this are acience fiction or related conventions because they supply the location for lodging and meeting.

Yeah but the advantage of something like this is that your attention is not divided. D*C, C3, tell me you are just going to meet people? How many people are going? Only reason I proposed somthing like this is because I thought it would suit our interests to get to know eachother offboard in a more personal way...even if we do regional. Its too bad it won't work

It might in future.
The cost of the con is the least of the costs for me....it's hotel and airfare. And that was the problem with our aborted attempt at a gathering of TJA.

So cool to hear that some of our members are meeting up......VERY cool....
I have not let the idea of the Assembly of the Assembly die off completely.....I at least hope to Assemble the Midwest Order possibly next year.....and ALL TJA members would be encouraged to attend...of course!
I assure you, no one was more disappointed that TAOTA had to be cancelled...I was looking forward to it BIG time...and put a lot of work into it.....
And it is true...planning meetings at larger conventions doesn't usually allow a lot of time for bonding...too much to see and do....

Post III would be good, or as for major cons, if we can plan to arrive say 2 days early and do our thing & costume workshop together than that might be an idea too. But Primrodo, you're certainly welcome to come hang & sew with us anytime, if you can get to where we are. I think you're not that far from us, but I might be wrong. We usually get together at Xana's or in the city. By the way, are you going to ICon? Some of us will be there.
