In this poem, which I wrote last year, Obi-Wan remembers Anakin...
REMEMBERING ANAKIN
We both had much to learn
In the early days,
Anakin and I...
I was reluctant to take responsibility,
But I had promised to train the boy
And I would not break my word.
I was hesitant and unsure,
I made mistakes,
As Anakin looked to me for guidance.
I had to make the decisions,
Be the Master,
But as time passed,
I truly believed he was the Chosen One,
Who would bring Balance to The Force.
Long years rolled by,
And our bond flourished,
Anakin grew strong with The Force.
And the boy became a man, a mighty Jedi.
His courage was renowned
Throughout the Galaxy.
They called him
"The Hero with no Fear",
The bravest pilot I ever knew,
He saved my life
Many times.
More than comrades,
We were as close as brothers.
I thought that nothing would break
The bond we had.
I was wrong...
Subtle and insidious,
A Sith Lord seduced him,
Under the guise of friendship,
And the silver-tongued Sith
Promised him many things
In exchange for allegiance.
So he sold his soul
To save the one he loved,
And by doing so, lost everything.
Consumed by darkness
Deeper than the night,
And drenched with despair,
He succumbed to the Dark Side
And could not return
To the Light.
I did not spot the warning signs
Until it was too late.
I failed...
And the Galaxy paid the price of my failure.
Marching into the Temple
With betrayal in his heart
And troopers at his back,
He massacred his fellow Jedi.
Showing no mercy,
Not even to the Younglings,
Who pleaded to him for help...
To no avail.
Now Anakin is dead,
Consumed by flames
On Mustafar.
And I ask myself the question
Which I know I cannot answer...
Where did I go wrong?
