Oh, yeah... how could I forget Moulin Rouge... and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
Also I love the R&H version of Cinderella... the old one, that is. The one they used to show on TV when I was little. I finally got that on DVD.
And does anyone know how many film versions of Phantom of the Opera have been done? Oli got me one for Christmas but it's the one by Dario Argento and I'm not a fan of blood and gore, so I'm going to exchange it for another version. I'm just not sure which one I'd like best.

Leda, I think there are around 5. Lon Chaney, of course The1st & silent one Claude Rains, very good. I can't think of the other 2 that I've seen at the moment & of course Webber's current musical version. Who's in the 1 that you got? Sounds like it might be a Hammer film, I'm sure if it was I've seen it, if not, I most likely still saw it. As for my favourite movies, aside from the the 1st 5 on the list, there's alot, but to name a few: Almost all the old horror movies, even the bad ones, (no I don't mean the slasher pics like friday the13th & halloween)as well as the old SciFi pics and the Dino pics, it would be hard to find one I didn't see before they started making slasher pics, but I do like the early Nightmare on Elm St. stuff, they are modern horror pics, not just slasher, they have a logic to them. In general, I mean the ones that were made up to about the early 70's, though, there are a few after that, most after that time seem to lack even a basic plot or logic in favour of gory efx, or scantily clad girls, how come it's never scantily clad boys? Exceptions are the Alien films, Predator & Terminators, good stuff, will watch them anytime. An especially really creepy movie is The Wicker Man. The 1st movie I remember seeing was THe Mole People, dumb movie w/ message, but I still love it. All the old Sword & Sandal epics, Ben Hur, Spartacus, The Robe, etc & the old Hurcules movies w/ Steeve Reeves, and Weissmuller Tarzan"s and the Vikings & The Longships. Most of the new ones too, Troy, Alexander & Arthur this year all made me happy at least for the most part, especially for the really great battle stuff. Old Pirate movies like Capt. Blood. Old Robin Hood's as well, not the K.C. version. Really good historical stuff like Beckett, Lion in Winter, Braunagh's Henry V, The Crucible, Zefferelli's Romeo & Juliet & several other Shakespeare's. Absolutly anything w/ Liam Neeson The Lord of the Rings Trilogy The Indiana Jones esp. Raiders Harry Potter movies so far, esp. the 3rd one. Mad Max movies The Devils, Ken Russell at his best. Buckeroo Banzai Metropolis, silent(with or w/o piano score, prefer with, it adds to the film)or w/ R&R score, B&W or Tinted this is a brillant film. La Belle et la Bete J. Choctau's brilliant version of Beauty & the Beast, best version yet, even w/ the subtitles, wonder where A.L. WEbber's Phantom got those candleabra arms in the wall? Homage perhaps? Lot's of movie versions of B'way musicals, even when they usually change them, and just made for movie musicals as well. The stage version of "Caberet" is far more powerful than the film, they really cut the heart out of that one, messed up "A Chorus Line" as well, those are the most butchered. And just to add a few Mini Sreies to the fold, I Claudius The Six Wives of Henry VIII Elizabeth R Pride & Predjugdice Nicklelas Nickleby all in the '70's by Masterpiece theatre Shogun And stuff like Gone With the Wind & Cold Mountain (most any period or costume drama done well)& yes, The Wizard of Oz, and a few thousand more, by now I'm sure you're all bored. I've always loved movies, so there are lots of them.

And does anyone know how many film versions of Phantom of the Opera have been done? Oli got me one for Christmas but it's the one by Dario Argento and I'm not a fan of blood and gore, so I'm going to exchange it for another version. I'm just not sure which one I'd like best. Based on reviews that I've read, the best version (aside from the one released this December and the 1925 Lon Chaney version) is the 1990 made-for-TV movie that NBC ran in two parts. I saw it when I was like 8, and I remember liking it quite a bit. Since the new film has come out, I've been reading through some reviews of the older films, and this seems to be the one that people like the best, and it's readily available on Amazon. Interestingly enough, Burt Lancaster plays the manager of the theater! The only really negative comment I've heard about it is that for some reason, the director decided not to include the masquerade ball, which is, of course, the opening scene for Act II of ALW's musical. As an aside, absolutely avoid the Robert Englund (yes, Freddy freakin' Kruger) version, as well as the rock-opera version, The Phantom of the Paradise! And finally, in case you're curious, the 1983 version with Jane Seymour has next to nothing to do with Gaston Leroux's novel. In terms of my favorite non-Star Wars films of all time, I guess the list would go something like this, in no particular order: 1) Heat (Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, and Val Kilmer) 2) LA Confidential 3) Moulin Rouge 4) Collateral 5) Unforgiven 6) Blade Runner 7) Gladiator 8) Lonesome Dove (Yes, I know it was made for TV) 9) Batman (1989) 10) The Professional (Jean Reno and Gary Oldman) By the way, Leda, the new Phantom is quite good. A few minor quibbles, but truthfully, considering that I went into the theater knowing that the last Joel Schumacher film I watched was Batman and Robin, my expectations were rather low. That, and I have seen the musical in person. In any case, I'm itching to go see this new one again!

I think I'm going to read the novel... to "ground" myself with authenticity! lol!!! I saw POTO on stage and I would like to see the one that just came out.
As far as silents go, I have a few... but my favorite is "Nosferatu".
