Well, they're only giving Don medication for it, but I don't know what kind. It's stable, but they don't have anything that leads back to 'normal', so he's tired and has some pain all the time, though he can walk and do things. When it first showed up (about 10 years ago, I think) they tested for things for months until they eliminated all the worst-case things and settle on 'not-ALS'. My sister has a job where she travels, so she doesn't have to be there all the time for him. And Don's family and two of their kids live in the are, too. Sometimes it seems to get better or worse all on it's own, no matter what they give him. I saw him last Labor Day and he was doing OK for my sister's 50th birthday party, but he moves slowly and it makes him sound a bit older than he is. What are they doing for your brother?

Nice to see this buried 'way down on page 6, but alas I must resurrect it
Mark has been experiencing nausea and vomiting for the past two days.
Right now Mark is in the hospital. He was admitted today about 8:00 p.m. We went to our family doc who took a look at him and basically said to get to the hospital. He's having kindney problems. He has a history of kidney stones -- a disease called medullary sponge kidney -- but this does not seem to be stones they said. While he was in ER he started having heart palpitations too, maybe from being dehydrated from vomiting so much. He is in at least overnight for observation, and we'll see after that. That's about all I know so far
Hay but at least he waited until AFTER Dragon*Con :: Lame attempt at joke ::

You and he are in my prayers and meditations. It has been a long time since the last post, which is good. Hope he recovers quickly.

Hay but at least he waited until AFTER Dragon*Con :: Lame attempt at joke :: I'll b epraying for him and you, Carol... And sometimes you have to keep a sense of humor about life, no matter how lame it sounds. It's a way of coping.

Sounds like he will be coming home today. Dunno what time. At least they got him hydrated. But I am worried that he will start vomiting again when the anti-nausea medications stop. I am also worried hat they have not addressed the problem as a whole

He is home now and feeling pretty decent. At least they got him hydrated and on some nausea meds, although they did not send any home with us. The kidney problem is papillary necrosis and chronic pyelonephritis where the kidneys have become increasingly damaged due to his disease. No kidney failure, thank goodness, but it may be in the future.
We will be going to see his nephrologist in Michigan as soon as we can get an appt. I don't trust the docs her oen bit wheni t comes to Mark's disease. They know nothing abut it around here

Nerf will start his third round of Rituxan on Thrsday. The first infusion is usually the worst and the subsequent ones are better. He will get infusions once a week for four weeks. I really needed to get them out of the way before the holidays hit at work!

Glad to hear he is home. I hope things start to look up again and this thread drops to page 6 or 7 at least. If you are in need of some humor, give me a call. As Leda can tell you, after the weekend I had, I'm loaded with with some dark humor...............
