I got into this discussion with my sister today....if any other Jedi manage to escape the calamity in the next movie besides Yoda and Obi-wan, where would that fit in the EU? Would it place the EU as a divergent SW track if there are any surviving, hidden Jedi conspicuously missing from the post-Return of the Jedi stories?
I'm not really looking for any spoilers, this is just idle speculation. My guess is that everyone else will be conclusively offed in the next film. My sister thinks it's likely that some Jedi could get missed, or at least you're-not-quite-sure killed. My sister hasn't read any of the EU fiction at all, and I've only sampled some books and comics here and there for authors or characters that I like.

I'm sure some Jedi are on missions or off-planet somewhere and must be hunted down... hence the Jedi Purge. I know I was... ;D

ANd I'm sure that some were in deep space missions and probably won't be found.
Many , would probably sense what's going on, hear the holoNet news and go into deep deep hidding. like Ben. Taking up a differant trade and live liek a regualr joe.

Oh, it's a big galaxy out there to hide in for sure. But Palpatine will doubtless send out bad guys to track down the fugitives. How many, if any, will escape? And any former Jedi, lurking on the outer reaches, would KNOW immediately when Palpatine got it. There seemed to be some galactic level partying going on at the end of ROTJ. What would they do then?
Ah well, it may be made clear in the next film.....or not.

Or he'd use disgrunteled jedi to track down heir brothers and sisters.

As far as I know:
disgruntled Jedi == Sith
And that means Darth Vader. Obviously from the cartoons there CAN be more than one Sith around, but given their tendency toward violence, Sith have their own self-regulating mechanisms for keeping their numbers down.
And at the end of ROTJ Luke didn't have to fight off any other Siths after Vader dumped Palpatine. So, by then at least, it was down to two.

As far as I know: disgruntled Jedi == Sith There's a difference between Sith and dark Jedi. Vader, Sidious and Tyranus are Sith, members of an elite order restricted to only two at a time. Fallen Jedi like Asajj, Sora Bulq and many more of Dooku's acolytes are not Sith, just Jedi that went bad. I believe it is in the Yoda novel where Asajj is complaining that Dooku won't take her on as an apprentice and teach her the Sith arts, such is the life of a dark Jedi lackey. ROTS will have no effect on the EU other than make it much more interesting. There are very few Jedi that come out of the woodwork to help Luke post-ROTJ anyway. There is no possible way that they can show every single Jedi die in the next film, so it's really a non issue. There will be enough destruction to justify for the film-only crowd that the Jedi were decisively destroyed like Obi-Wan told Luke in his homestead, but EU fans know that there are plenty more out there. Those will be taken care of in whatever TV show/comic book/novel that they decide to spin off with or are left to become the "hidden" Jedi that end up helping or hurting Luke later on in the timeline. The universe is really big enough for plenty of them to hide throughout the outer rim. Afterall, Obi-Wan was successful with Tatooine.

I hadn't realized that there were fallen Jedi. I've only sampled the EU here and there. I guess with fallen Jedi, you could also have retired Jedi, lapsed Jedi, not-quite-all-there Jedi.....even Jedi accountants. ;D
The numbers of systems in the SW universe are stated to be in the 10s of thousands. That's a big universe. I've always thought that more than one Jedi Order could re-emerge post-ROTJ and not just what Luke starts up. But "hidden Jedi"? Are there hidden Jedi?

Hidden in the meaning that they hid from the Empire and survived long enough to meet up with Luke in the Bantam-era novels.
