Okay, since this is my first con I actually have to travel to, I want opinions on what the best way to pack your garb. I went out and bought a big zippered hanging garment bag, the kind that you can fold over once, but I am afraid so much stuffed inside will get wrinkled. Any good tips on packing Jedi garb? Especially tabbards/obi and the super long robe?

How about using the garment bag for the larger pieces like robes, outer tunics and tabbards and folding the rest in suitcases? That way the garment bag won't get too full. The under tunic, obi and pants are mostly coverd by other parts of the costume and probably would look fine even after being folded.
A lot does depend on how you are traveling. I'm flying, so I have to deal with two big, wheeled suitcases and an airline-enforced weight limit. So, everything gets folded. I fold a whole costume's worth of clothes together in one "package", including underwear and socks. That keeps me from forgetting little things like accessories and it's easier to keep things organized in the hotel room if I have each costume "package" sorted separately. I just fold pants and tunics, obi and tabbard into one one square pile. They're all a fairly "square" type of clothes.
I'll ususally hang things up when I get to the hotel, but I still keep everything together. I don't worry about wrinkles, though a lot of hotels nowadays have an iron and ironing board in their rooms. Have you looked at your hotel's web page? They may have them.

Oh yeah I made sure they had ironing board and irons. I am not too great with an iron, especially on something as oddly shaped as a tunic, but I think it'll work out.

With luck, I'll be able to borrow the costume shop steamer from work, much faster than an iron and leaves no creases.

Once, again, what Ani-Chay Pinn said. My husband, the engineer type, taught me a way to make a luggage-train out of 2 large, wheeled, suitcases, so that's how I got all my costumes to ComicCon last year. The short strap attaches to the handle of the trailing piece. Fixed at the right length, the trailing piece still runs on it's wheels and is quite maneuverable. I'e been using a really big rolling duffle style bag recently, it has a pull up handle and wheels. Holds a huge amount of stuff. Since i'm coming in the car with Leda & Andrew we'll also be bringing sewing machines and (I hope) a steamer. Most of the wearable stuff I'm bringing is costumes the rest are under and night things and what I travel in so I'll get it in there, the accessories are a big room taker in the bag..

With me coming in via airline and spending the week before in Florida, Im finding it a strain to fit everything in. One thing that has helped alot is some bags from Pack Mate that you just roll up and it squeezes the air out. Doesnt help on weight but gets rid of about 70% of the volume. I was amazed at how small my big outer robe went down to  Luckily florida should be warm so i wont need big bulky clothing for that and the various trousers I wear with the jedi outfit I can wear normally before hand anyway. Just got to make sure they get washed between florida and Indy. Just hope the hotel has an iron. |

Almost all hotels have irons & boards as well, I am definitly allowed to bring the steamer, so if you're around on Weds. stop by for the "Steam, Stich & Bi...." at Schph, Emerita and my suite in the Embassy. All members will be welcome! Sewing machines and steamer as well as last minute fix it, alter it advice and meet & greet.

I might just take you up on that kind offer We should be getting in Wednesday sometime so we can queue for our tickets/lanyards etc at the willcall booth. Wednesday night were stopping at some cheap hotel on the outskirts and then checking in to the Raddison on the thursday (as I couldnt get room bookings for the wednesday night there). |

well i work at a camp, that has hotel like rooms... and sometimes it just wasnt practical to use the supplied iron, (but steaming is quick and effective but i didnt have mine)
ok here are two quick fixes to a dilemma of wrinkled clothes but no iron or steamer
the first - just go into the bathroom, its kind of small you just hand your entire costume on the shower bar, making sure that the plastic lining is between any water that might hit there, aim the shower head at the opposite wall, just in case, then turn the shower on HOT, really hot and let it run for as long as you need the steam
second option - if you know you need it the night before, this is as good as an iron, take your mattress off your bed, (see how its all flat) and lay your there, in the way you want them flattened, then carefully put the mattress back on then go to bed, in the morning your clothes will be right as rain ( i just said right as rain ;D)

DietVanillaMike beat me to the hot shower trick- I've used that method on many many occasions and it always works like a charm! I would leave the water running and check the wrinkles every 10 minutes or so until I was satisfied they were gone.
