Hello all. My girlfriend is interested in doing an Aayla costume. The costume itself shouldn't be too hard but I have no idea on how to attempt the lekku (headtails). I looked at a couple threads on the Rebel Legion but the stuff they link to is several years old. Has anyone found/used any new techniques lately? Or better yet (and probably not allowed here), is there any place that sells the headpiece? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is my Aayla costume. Due to the weight of the headpiece (the lekku and headband are all one piece) I have only wore this once, at DragonCon last year. I'm currently working on a new headpiece which will hopefully be lighter. The lekku themselves are made from foam rubber, covered in latex- three coats. The head band is also latex. After curing, the latex was painted with an acrylic paint that matched the makeup. The whole things comes on and off like a helmet. It may have been the wig cap I was wearing underneath, but I got a horrendous headache when I was wearing it. If I don't get my new headpiece done in time for C3, I may try it without a wigcap, just lots of hairpins. The rest of the costume is pretty easy, especially if you are already into the whole Jedi costume thing. -Karma

Very cool Aayla costume! The make-up looks nice and even.
I don't know about wig caps, but I've gotten headaches from swimming caps on costumes in the past. Now, I generally try to build extra room into headpieces that my hair can go into. I've never tried this since my hair is too long, but I've heard that soaping you hair and then blowing it dry with the soap in will hold it flat witout lots of pins. You just wash it out when you're done. I assume you use an exceptionally gentle shampoo for this.
