At your local theatre supply store, look for Ben Nye Hair Color. It comes in White and two shades of gray. I have used it, and while I've never tested it in the rain, it doesn't flake or get all stiff like the spray stuff, or even like shoe polish is prone to do. Though as long as you're not using it too frequently shoe polish will work. (Not really designed for use on hair after all.)

It comes in two sizes, one about $10, the other $15 (depending on where you get it). As far as I have seen, it will work on almost any color hair, even odd Manic Panic colors. It is BEN NYE, not Bill Nye, and they are definitely not the same thing. Ben Nye makes the best theatrical makeup. I'll be using it for my Jedi. I also have a Sith character with metallic copper skin, via Ben Nye. My makeup is a creme that after being powdered, I can stand under water and it will not run or smudge.

Thanks both of you. Ben Nye works on turning brown/black hair to a grey /white? If so what should myfriend expect when he washes this in. How many washings will it take to make hsi hair go back to brown/black after he does his Count Dooku thing?
Thansk Nova, that'll rock.

You don't wash it in, you brush it in. It washes out, so he won't have to worry about looking prematurely grey. I know the white works well on black hair, I'm not quite as certain on the light grey. Perhaps if you mixed them... Well, all makeup is a trial and error sort of thing.
