Humm <rubs chin> I found some kakhi.tan colored wool. How would that look for a sleeveless Jedi robe?
I found that withone fo myJedi costumes I have 7 layers of clothing on. Strangly I'm so used to the weight it doesn't bother my shoulders or back.

I'm always carrying a backpack, so the robe doesn't feel heavy at all, it's much lighter than the backpack. My robe is close to 9 yds of very heavy cotton, it's only heavy if I take it off & carry it, or if it's in the luggauge, I never notice the weight when I'm actually wearing it, it distributes nicely, but it can get very warm, I'm still trying to figure out how I wore it all night after work on Halloween in Webster Hall, which was hot, sweaty & packed!

I too have been looking into a sleeveless robe like Ki Adi Mundi has....I think I have enough of the lightweight chestnut wool left over from my last robe to make a short and sleeveless robe....I way over-purchased that wool....now I am glad that I did....
I did notice one thing about Ki-Adi's "robe" though....he almost wears it as an outer tunic because his belt is worn over the robe.....and the eliptical hem might be a challenge...but do-able.....

Ki Adi's robe is short, but fairly full, best pattern to look at would be for a rennaisance men's short surcoat, I'll see if I can find the thing I'm talking about & send you a trace of it out of a book I have, eliptical is just sort of shorter rounded curve, looks good belted, as in Xana's new tunic. Mynn, I think a tannish/khaki would be a great colour for a robe, not all the robes a dark brown. I have a lt. oatmealy (not bleached or dyed, nat. coloured) wool (I think it was wool, it might be silk, bought it a couple of years ago) that I'm going to do a robe from, well, redo a robe from, I made it up, and then the guy decided to get something else from me, so, I need to change it a bit & shorten it about a couple of feet, he was huge, plus as I was going to dye it, I sewed it with a dark thread as the thread wouldn't have dyed the same colour as the intended dye. I do remember that I got the fabric at a place that was going out of business & I bought all they had, & the price was really great, like about $3 a yard or something like that, would have been more, but I was a very regular customer so they gave it to me at like cost.

Thanks Nova, I'll give it a shot. I hadn't made an over robe before. Mine was made for me. I hope I can acheive that good of quality.

A robe of many colors, eh Schph? ;D I think the proper description would be... evenly mottled... but I am going to use it anyway...

You could use it for a camoflauge robe on Endor maybe... but I guess brown would be more of a desert cammy for Tatooine

It might even out with a few washings, but if not,I think I like the sound of it anyway.

About the uneven dye....You could try washing it with Rit whitener or some bleach; that might even out the color......or you could lose so much color that you'll have to start over again. Dying can be tricky sometimes.
About the robe.....I don't feel like I've got the complete costume without it. I don't have to be wearing it all the time, but like having it. I have finally, finally achieved my ultimate Jedi robe. All my previous attempts had annoying flaws, though one of my failures is doing qiote well as a bathrobe.
My robe is color of dark chocolate, the right length, the right weight, hood and sleeves. And it has pockets. I'm wearing it now. I doubt that it's true to the movie, but I like pockets and you can't see them really. And it's machine washable; always an important characteristic of any of my costumes. Now if I could just find that miracle fabric that can go from soaking wet to perfectly dry in 2 minutes, it would be perfet.
I noticed that Obi-wan wore his robe with the hood up to Qui-gon's funeral. Is the robe part of a Jedi's "dress uniform" for such occassions?

I don't think so, but I do think it was more a feeling of a "comfortable place" for Obi Wan in that instance. I don't think that the jedi have a required formal uniform, just a uniform of acceptable looks that are recognised as Jedi, but are unremarkable enough to blend in w/ the populace on most worlds when they need to be unnoticed.

I don't know. I think so. I've read in places were they've 'dress' tunics and over robes . Some Jedi have silk tunics and over robes for very special occasions.

I like the "comfortable place" idea for Obi-wan wearing his robe with the hood up to Qui-gon's funeral. It sounds right for Obi-wan. Mace had his hood up, too. So, I don't think Old Republic Jedi have any specific dress code (outside of hygiene). Old Republic Jedi are not supposed to own any possessions, so I doubt they have anything "formal". EU Jedi could have anything, I guess.
But it makes you wonder if they don't have a change of clothes somewhere, even a nightshirt to wear to bed, just to do laundry. Unless, they do it like a car wash and just jump in the shower with everything on. They do dry off fast and Qui-gon was noticeably cleaner after theyd been swimming with Jar Jar.

I finally did the same a couple months ago! Yay! And yes... I too have made a few "prior attempts" shall we say! And I can picture a Jedi's closet... just a sea of browns: 5 tunics, 3 robes, 4 pairs of pants, 7 sets of undergarments (assuming there are 7 days in a Coruscant week and they do wash on their version of Sunday) and one pair of boots. Maybe they have slippers too, for shuffling about the temple hallways in the middle of the night. Oh oh oh... and we can't forget about Jedi Swimwear! ;D
