Echuu, Greetings, Sewing a Jedi is not to hard, and there's lot's of info right here in the sewing forum. It seems that it's closing time here in the I cafe, be back 2morrow, but read thru the old threads in the mean time. There are several simple patterns that are available. Are you by any chance going to Dragon Con? there will be a workshop, & I will be helping new sewers.

First, you need to learn how to sew. I would not recommend doing this on your Jedi costume, unless you want to make a prototype (in sewing terms, called a muslin) that would NOT be your final costume. If so, use VERY cheap fabric ($1 a yard at most). To learn how to sew, you need a teacher. Options include local schools...community colleges sometimes have low cost classes in lots of craft skills. Also check out fabric stores as they sometimes have classes. Find a friend who might teach you. Sites for design of Jedi garb: www.rebellegion.com/jedigarb/ is still the best. PM me and I can also send you the handouts I use locally or find them on my website. This is a skill best learned from another person. As a last resort, you can turn to books. Try your local library first. I've found a number of how to sew websites but I still think a good book is better.

I believe the "Sewing for Dummies" is a pretty good how to type of book, practical advice w/ some illustrations. Learning to sew is not hard, but does take patience & practice. If you have a friend or relative that will help or give advice that is good. Most fabric stores do give at least basic lessons & almost all will give helpful advice. Do you have access to a sewing machine? Doing a Muslin is a good idea, and you might be able to use it as your under tunic. As for fabric to do a mockup, unbleached muslin is usually cheap enough to use, and makes a good under tunic, 2 birds w/ 1 stone. Whatever you use to make the project, make sure that you wash & dry and press the fabric before starting to cut or sew.
