I dont know if this is on the VHS or not but this discussion is on the DVDs. Near the end of the celebration when it goes through the different planets, when it gets to Coruscant, in the back ground you see a building with 5 towers on top. I beleive that would be the Jedi Temple, anyone else recognize it? I would add a picture of it but cant figure out how to. It asks for URL and the pic isnt online anywhere. So I had to get a snapshot from my DVD player. Also before the Temple the Senate building is in the background near the beginning of Coruscant, you know... the big dome building

Yes, those were both DVD additions.

I can't say anything about the VHS, but you're right about the DVD. First you see what looks like the Senate dome in the distance as the camera pans across the cityscape and then you see what looks like the Jedi Temple very far away in another direction. They're small, and shown at night, but they have fairly distinctive shapes.
Funny, I just assumed that Palpatine would have blown that up. Aside from the fact that it's a big, ugly bunker and an eye sore, I would have thought that the emperor would have wanted to stomp on anything Jedi in a fairly substantial way. Like Sith urban renewal.
Does this mean that Luke could claim whatever was in the old Jedi Temple after the Alliance took charge and hopefully cleared it of any old Sith nasties? 20+ years of Sith housekeeping has got to leave a stain.

yeah I woulda' thought Siddie woulda' ruined the temple too.
maybe ole' palpatine wanted to kep it as a memorial that HE stomped the Jedi and it's there to remind himself of what he had accomplished. But it does make me wonder. Are the jedi holocrons still around, like the great holocron.(Buckyball/decohedron looking holocron.)

It's not just the holocrons, what about the whole archives? The droids? The big, imposing statuary? The office fiurniture? If he leaves the Temple itself standing, what does he do with all that stuff inside? I can see Palpatine taking some down time to gloat over his conquest, and he'll likely save anything that will enhance his own power, but there's a lot of jumk that a 1,000+ year old Jedi Order is just going to accumulate in it's attics. One could have a whole TV series just figuring that out. Like the old Friday the 13th series; a team of New Republic Jedi has to wander the galaxy to retrieve all the Jedi bric-a-brac that Palapatine got rid of in that huge garage sale he had when the Empire first started up.
Don't anyone answer with spoilers on this. I'm having too much fun anticipating all the might-happens to want it nailed down with any what-will-happens.

I think I know why the Temple is there and why Palpatine didnt destroy it. I beleive he kept it for himself and stays there. Thats his base/home on Coruscant. If you read the comic ' A New Hope: Infinites ' after he successfully destroys most of the Rebel base on Yavin IV, he takes Leia back to Coruscant and they are at the Temple, and I think it was Palpatine who gloats about it and saying that the room they are in held the greatest Jedi ever, Jedi Counsil, or something like that.

Ya they are both additions to the DVD version ONLY. There are changes throughout the entire trilogy. I would call it the Special Special edition since it's been upgraded even FROM the '97 special edition. I could sit here and list all of the changes they made myself, but I found a link that will let you SEE what all they did. www.thedigitalbits.com/reviews3/starwarschanges.html

In EU somewhere i read it may be that the Jedi Temple was converted into a museum of relics that Palpatine can pine over...

I don't think that Palpatine would exactly pine over the Jedi Temple remains....more like gloat.
When did the Jedi Temple first show up in any of the EU? It had to be >= 1999 since that's when we first saw it.
