I used "linen-look solids" from Joann for both tunic and cloak... nice texture, with some weave to it... not as expensive as real linen, and it's washable... and not as hot as a pure polyester or wool. I did preshrink, of course..

The linen-look sounds nice. I have no problem with partially synthetic fabrics for a SW costume as long as they have the right texture and color. And while I do like linen, it always needs to be ironed, while a lot of blends are more wash and wear.

Linen-rayon is a good blend. The rayon is still a sort-of natural fabric as it is made from cellulose. So it's cooler than poly blend. It also makes the linen more wash-and-wear, with little to no need for ironing.

The linen-look needs a little touch up with the iron, but it isn't necessary... unless you stuff your cloak into a storage box for three months, then it needs ironing... LOL
Hang it up as soon as the dryer shuts off...

I've seen this one before...I am curious what it will look like after it is washed. I think I will get a sample and see!

Get more than just the small 4 inch sample they will send you. I did that a couple of weeks back, through it in the wash with other things and it was COMPLETELY unwoven and a mess in that load of laundry.

AMP: the blurb says "After washing and drying it, it compacts and crinkles up into a loose chevron repeat pattern that looks nubby". Sounds like that was not your experience
Schph: I saw that. Didn't post it here as I thought the cost was prohibitive. I am interested but not at that price, when my usual order for Jedi garb is 10 yards, that would be $170!

Yes....the price is steep.... I didn't actually plan on buying any... but do plan to keep an eye out for similar at maybe a cheaper price...or look for a sale.. I usually order between 6 and 8 yards - depending on width too....

It's a small zippered bag that you put delicates in, which prevents them from getting all twisted up in the laundry. It might help prevent some of the damage that you are getting to the fabric.

however, it would take a rather large bag to wash an entire costume that way. And if the fabric is so delicate it cannot withstand washing, then it has to be dry cleaned.
