Ive currently got a couple of pairs of linen trousers, 3 pairs of 'normal' trousers all in suitable colours, a pair of dark brown jeans and a pair of dark brown riding jodhpurs that I bought on sale as they were my size and cheap.
All of them are equally comfortable but the trousers have useful pockets whereas the jodhpurs only have a small 'key' pocket just abot big enough for the car keys. I wear them all and mix and match.

I buy normal khakies. I put a sturup on the bottom, cinch up the ankle holes and attach elastic suspenders Works great

The pants I wear are from Target, and they are flat front, elastic waist, stretch denim capris. I find them much easier to wear, since the pants tend to pull up and out of the boots when I move around, it is much easier to tuck the capris back in than the longer pants. They are much more comfortable and less bulky inside the boots.
I have the ankle length version of those same pants, as well.
