Yesterday at work I had a lady return a set of curtains. They are the neatest color of reddish brown -- paprika I think the package called it. Anyways! The first thought that went through my head was how I cold make a tunic or robe out of it. Unfortunately I don't think tehre is enough material in one panel to make a robe. But the color would be more suited for a robe than a tunic. But she did return several panels. Hmmm.... is ther a way I could take two panels and make a robe.... Each panel is about 2 1/2 yards long

You would probably get one quarter of an adult size robe out of one panel. It would depend on how wide they are also--- if you can't squeeze sleeves into the same panel as the body of the robe, then you'd need another still. So my best guess would be that you would need 4-5 panels. The hood can probably be pieced together with the extra yardage left on each panel after the robe is cut out.
Sounds like a really nice color!

How wide are the panels? That could actually be a pretty good fabric find if they're in the 60 inch range...but even the 45 wouldn't be too bad.

I have to go back and look at the width. I wrote it down but can't find my paper. Hmmm.

Check the fiber content on the package! Sometimes curtains will contain itchy things like fiberglass. Even a robe made wtih that would be uncomfortable wherever it would touch the skin.

Ani's right about the fiberglass... you may want to check that... but I associate fiberglass more with drapes... it's there for insulation for the window.

As Ani said, make sure to check the fabic content (beware of fibreglass and any other fiber that you don't easily recognise, fibreglass not only can be itchy, it can cut as well as being a breathing hazard when cutting), but lots of drapes are made from natural fabrics too. Sounds like a neat colour. Depending on the width, I'd say 4-5 panels ought to do it. I bought myself some nice heavy brushed brown cotton flannel for a robe at New Years, now all I need is time to do it, but at least the machine is now running properly at last, took 2 trips to the repair guy to get it just right. I finally found the instruction book to the big Bernina machine the other day, it's worse than a computer, it's a computer that sews, but only if you tell it the right thing, eeeeekkkkk! I finally started to play around and experiment with the 2nd serger, it does some really neat stuff, another one with a big manual, and lots of weird attachments

LOL... you know you're a star wars nut when... you see curtains and you think jedi robe! Funny... I was thinking just the other day that the fabric in my cubical wall would make a good tunic. It looks a little like the osnaburg used in my current tunic, only the fabric is a little bit thicker/heavier.

I didn't think there COULD be anything worse than a computer, but Nova, I think you're right. I always have said computers would be better if they did what I wanted them to do instead of what I told them to do. Sheesh.... LOL... you know you're a star wars nut when... you see curtains and you think jedi robe! Funny... I was thinking just the other day that the fabric in my cubical wall would make a good tunic. I saw a brownish textured bedspread and was thinking...
