Now do you have a bit of interfacing in the larger part of your obi Plo? Yes there's a bit. My tailor had a hard time getting my Obi right so I'm gonna make another one. An Obi is not that hard to make really but for some reason my tailor just has a mental block on how it should be done despite me showing her patterns and photo references...
Note to self: Put the cat in the cage when putting on Jedi outfit.

Humm., he or she probably never made one before. I have made them and like the traditional variety much better. The first one was all by hand, The second was a completely reversable variety. If you want, I can construct it for you. I've the time. All I'd need is the fabric you'er using, your waist dimentions and the width of obi.

I have to use velcro to close because I can't reach back to tie it. Do you think eyes & hooks would work? I usually have to attach everything from the front & move it to the back--a bit of a struggle but it works.

pardon the lag. Yep hook and eyes will work. I have a black obi I use those with. TThe fabric was a pair of black excersis pants I recycled to an obi.

Sorry for the late reply, PC was down for a few days...yeah the tailor I used has never made a real Obi before…
And thanks for the offer, really appreciate it. Unfortunately I'm on the other side of the globe(Asia) and it won't be feasible to send the material back and forth…

I have to use velcro to close because I can't reach back to tie it. Actually you should be tying it in front, if its made according to specifications of a true Obi...that's a common misconception, and that's exactly what my tailor did with the 1st one she made...

Soft sew-on Velcro--- I have three horizontal strips of it sewn onto the obi. The top and bottom strip are exactly to the edge of the obi, so I get none of that 'flop-over' when I tighten the leather belt over it.

I use the velcro, but on one side it's horizontal and the other is vertical, this gives max. adjustability and also coverage so no show or flop over either. I use a double layer of non woven but not fusible interlining, medium weight, between a double layer of fabric, can face either side out, I sometimes make reversible with different on either side for variety, good at cons for a little change in look.

Here's a shot of Obi-Wan's... it looks like it's tacked at the edges to keep them from rolling.

Ok, so maybe mine does get that "flop-over" at the edge. Must be the nature of the fabric. I think I might try a little eye hook at the edge. back of my sash

my tabbards are sewn into the back of my tunic and up at the shoulders so thats one less costume piece i need to worry about.. my belt is enough of a problem that its much easier when the rest of my costume can look after itself (my small belt and large ones are 2 different belts, and the small belt is a little big on me.. so it likes to slide around), my obi is just a piece of fabric that i safety pin together and tuck the pins under the belt.
