Hi I've enjoyed the Star Wars movies for years, but I've only just got interested in trying to make a costume, as I have too much time on my hands leading up to the start of the uni-year. I managed to throw something together in about ten minutes, using clothes and that that I have at home, but now I have a general idea as to how to do it, I want to do a more detailed one. img211.exs.cx/img211/4363/p10101252jt.jpgimg211.exs.cx/img211/5417/p10101205jd.jpg Thats a couple of pics of what I have managed to do so far. I know its pretty rough, but yeah... What do you guys think? I am going to have another attempt at it, this time putting a bit more time and effort into it. I was going to have a green outer tunic and cream pants. Thanks for any opinions and that that you give me. Alla

Nice job with just throwing things together! I originally wanted a green tunic, but I couldn't find a good green fabric for it. The Jedi pants in the films are Dockers. They come in cream, but I couldn't find my size in cream

Good first start! Before I decided to fix up my SW costumes for the movie this year, all my Jedi stuff was improvised. But I got onto the internet and found loads of wonderful pages to work from! Have you checked out the links here? Reference pictures, instructions, whatever, it was an enormous help. There were so many details to tidy up, but it was fun tracking them down. You know you're getting serious when your scrutinizing Obi-wan Kenobi's seams and hems.

Gee thanks guys. I've found the fabric that I want to use for the final tunic, its AU$7.70 a metre, so I'm going to do a few practice runs with some cheaper stuff first (i.e. an old sheet or something like. I don't know if there is anywhere around here that you can actually get Dockers from, but from having a look on the internet, I think they're a bit out of my budget. I know where I can get some cheaper (like $10) pants that are similar in design. I've found the boots that I'm going to use too. Now my thoughts have moved to how I'm going to make a robe - does anyone know of a reasonably cheap-to-buy material that works well? Thanks for your comments. Alla

They don't have to be Dockers pants. But something simialr. Pockets don't matter, the tunic hem covers those.:-D Althoughthe pokets are great for putting keys in.;-)
Does your town have thrift stores, salvation army etc? I found my khaki pants there for at msot $3. OR you cna PM me your size from wiat to inseam and I'll go scout about here for cream/khaki colored pants. You can even use stratchy leggings.

For a cheap fabric to do a trial run, try using a light weight Muslin, which is 100% cotton & usually no more than a $1-2 a yard or metre. When it's finished you can use it for an under tunic. Are you coming to CIII? If you can sew even a little, a Jedi is very easy, even if you've never sewn they're very easy to do. We're looking forward to seeing a picture in it when it's done. And btw Welcome to the boards! ;D

I don't think I can come to CIII - kinda hard to get there from Down Under . Anyway... Thanks for the tips. Just out of curiosity, what do you guys think of using a pair of fencing breeches as jedi pants (they're what I have on with the above pictures. The only thing that I don't really like about them is that they're white - and I like them to stay white. Alla

I can't see the pants too well cuz the shot is only from the wasit up. Although I don't see why Fencing pants aren't ok. If they fit, are comy it's cool. I've used horse riding jodpers and they looked great.(The type that didn't flare out at the thighs.)

I'd think they'd work fine, Jedi do sort of fence, but if you're worried about keeping them white, you might want another option. A lot of the women here wear leggings in brown or tan colours, I also have a couple of pairs of cotton knit pants and some linen as well. Usually you only show from the knee to mid thigh in the pants anyway, I think the colour might be more important than the style, at least for the pants.
