[glow=red,2,300]All Hail...[/glow] I am new to all of this, so bear with me... Without sounding like I ripped her off, I made my costume looked alot like Barriss Offee, BEFORE Ep.II even came out.. face tattoos & all. I was reading the Costume Regulations and was wondering, Does Black material make you a Sith? Just because I happen to look darn good in black, does that make me a Dark Jedi? I would hate to have to buy new fabric because I don't want to be labeled as a Sith Lord...er Lady. I just wanted some input. Thanks for you help! Geo-Ki

[glow=red,2,300]Okay...[/glow] I see at least 15 people have read this... I probably put it in the wrong forum, so please forgive me. I just wanted to know if there were any others out there who have a predominately black costume. Or black pieces. Or black ANYTHING.
Goodness... I hope this doesn't make me sound racist... Poor Mace... Geo

I personally have worn black boots and a black belt since I first made my Jedi robes (prior to Episode I).
Originally, my tunic and vest (as on my first set had a vest over the tunic instead of tabbards) were very light tan/cream in color (like Obi Wan's).
I have since dyed the set to a nice medium brown, as I did not care for the lighter color. My next set (set number 3) will be darker still, more chocolate (very dark brown, nearly black).
As to the question of "Does wearing black make you evil"... no. I wear black quite often, and not once have I become evil when putting on black clothing.
"Bad guys" are very often portrayed in such a way that merely looking at them one can assume that they are evil...many times this is accomplished through clothing. In old cowboy movies, you always knew who the "bad guy" was because he wore a black cowboy hat.
Honestly, it's a very effective cinematic/theatrical tool. We connotate black as being representive of evil, thus the Sith have always been portrayed wearing black garb. It's very visually effective is setting tone.
As to Jedi wearing black prior to the film release of Episode II, Luke Skywalker wore solid black in Episode IV (Return of the Jedi). This may have been done to represent his close call with The Dark Side when he defeated Lord Vader...seeing his own black-gloved hand as a threat of what he was becoming as he looked down upon his fallen father. A bit of tone perhaps of the shadow of the Dark Side that briefly passed over Luke.
So, no matter what color you wear, good or evil lies within...not in the clothes we wear.

Well said. I wear black. I'm not evil. Most of the time........... As far a costuming regulations go, The only all black costumes we accept are Luke's and Mara Jade's. And Mara has a pink cape or something. We do accept Bariss's costume, but it has to be a replica of hers, and her robe is dark blue. Does that help?

[glow=red,2,300]Yes..[/glow] It does help, and I appreciate your words of wisdom. I know all too well the old Westerns sterotypes... my roommate watches them all the time... I wasn't aware that Barriss robe was dark blue.. all of the pictures and action figures I've seen looked black to me. Maybe my moniter is off... lol. One of the reasons my character wears black is because she is mourning the death of her parents at the hands of the Sith. My character has some serious issues... she definately has trouble fighting off the dark side.. much like Luke in RTJ. So I can understand the argument that Luke was very close to turning, which is why he wore black. Indeed, that was a very powerful part of the movie, for me anyway. Geo

the costume i created for my character is all black but he is not a sith (although he did fall to the dark side for a spell) mostly the reason i did an all black was personal preferences. no, my costume does not meet the qualifications to join here, but i am happy with it which should be alot of your concern. KaiRhann put it very nicely, as black costumes on the big screen are MOSTLY a way for the audieance to tell who is good and bad, but this isnt always true as hoppalong cassidy wore all black as do the new x-men movies

[glow=red,2,300]Well said...[/glow] But as far as I'm concerned... I think pink is a much better representative of evil than black will EVER be... yuck... Geo

Well, here goes, Welcome to the group. No, Black does not make you evil, but in the CANNON scheme of things costume, except for the few exceptions that we make, they are considered Sith, and we are about Jedi. Also, as we plan to Volunteer at CIII as a group, the costume requirements are very stringent and require movie cannon costumes, with a very few exceptions to the rule. As the 3 costume clubs go, we might be the most lenient in some areas, but we are just Jedi, and not other or related characters. As far as Luminara & Bariss' go, the colour seems to be a very dark navy blue, they are Jedi Healers. As for character back stories for your persona, they are not relevant to the costumes, they are role-play, or backstory. Hope that helps to clarify some of the mysteries, the requirements are pretty clear about what we accept as costumes, stated in the charter.

[glow=red,2,300]I'm sorry...[/glow] I didn't mean to upset anyone with this thread... I just wanted to ask a question.. As for my costume goes, the one I made I had made LONG before Eps. I & II came out for halloween, so I decided to go with black, like Luke in RTJ. I am currently in the process of making a second costume, this one I guess you would call it a "traditional" Jedi outfit. That will be the one I will use to apply for membership. And for the sake of sounding ignorant, what is CIII?

It's cool. This issue comes up now and then and we have to adress it and make things clear. CIII is short for Star Wars Celebration III next year in Indiana. ;D

[glow=red,2,300]Well...[/glow]I hope so, that's the whole reason I'm here, and not at one of the other forums like Force.net where I see people get slammed all the time for not being "Authentic"

Hi Geo, Don't worry, the gang here aren't snobs. :-) it bugs us and it annoys the wildlife. People here don't slam oters, so no problem or worry in that department. Many of us most are of a kind who'll freely help another with hardware and 'software(fabric) with their costumes. Eved so much as swapping materials back and forth. Like giving spare items for food capsules, making comlinks, belt aprts even find fabric and passing some to one who can't get that in thier region.
If you need anything, or can't find something, ask. One of us is bound to have it or will track it down for ya'. :-)
