Hey Schph, "Set it & Forget it" sounds like you've been watching to many Ron Popeil infomercials ;D but that's good, I like it. actually.....I have never actually watched one of those...but when surfing occasionally...I have ran across that one...and every two seconds...he is saying "set it and forget it"....and I just groan and speed on... ;D

Nova, I stitched the tabbards to the shoulders on my last tunic. I made each tabbard out of one piece of fabric, folded lengthwise to the desired width, sort of like what Shoshana Win described. Then I fold in the raw edges on the open side and top-stitch the whole tabbard closed, but only on three sides, leaving one side folded. I put the folded side towards my neck and the topstitched side outwards towards my arms, if that makes sense. I know the usual way is to sew the tabbards all the way around and turn them inside-out, but by doing it this way I was able to sew them to the shoulders before I closed them and the seams aren't visible from the outside. The only problem with attaching the tabbards permanently is that the whole tunic is all one piece. This time I think I'm going to attach them with velcro, like you and some others have mentioned. I think I see what you're saying, if it works, thats all that counts. I use my tabbards with more than one tunic so I need them to be interchangable, but they don't give me to much trouble, they're belted pretty tightly.

I had thought of the interchangeability issue, especially after seeing tunics like Jeffrek's and Kai Rhann's. That's another reason why I'm considering velcro this time around, plus it'll be easier to wash!

Does anyone know how to make a "wrap and tie" obi? I don't know how to transfer the pattern I have to something I can use as a templet to cut from.

I do. I've made two of them so far. What do you need to know?

I don't know like..how to make a templet or pattern to go by. Like, I have the little diagram on my computer, I just don't know how to make it into...like paper I can cut by. Am I making sense? I'm sorry, I'm a costume noobie.
I know how long to make it and stuff, just not how to take that diagram and turn it into something I can use, and I'm also not sure how tall it should be. 16 inches, then doubled up and cut? Thank you for your help.

That sounds about right for the width if you want the finished obi to be about 7 inches wide, saying you allow about 1/2 in. for seam allowance.

Yes, I have been working on my costume all this time. I finished my tabbards/obi this weekend and there were several things I tried for the first time and they worked out perfectly. I went with linen (my tunic is silk noil) and made the tabbards 6" wide and the obi 7. I attached the tabbards permanently to the obi in back but used Velcro in front. I've always had my tabbards hang down below my obi in back but this time I went with the Obi-Wan style of hanging down only in the front. Also, instead of of horizontal edge on the front of the tabbards, I cut them on an angle so they come together to a bit of a point. Also, they attach to my shoulders with Velcro. On the obi I went with the right side (under my arm) Velcro closer I mentioned in another post. For the pleats/wrinkles I did what I've done a few times in the past. I made the top layer of my obi much larger than the underside layer and I gathered it to make the horizontal wrinkles, then made a few hidden vertical lines of stitches to make the wrinkles permanent. Those lines are all under my belt and it all looks very natural. Almost there!

I love looking at photos of people in their Jedi costumes....
I should follow your lead and do one Obi style tabbard that stops at the sash....

Thanks, Toss and Schph, I have the perfect location to take my pics. I just need to figure out the time to go when it won't be infested with picnic people. Shouldn't be long now.

"infested with pic-nic people".....sounds intriguing...
I finished my "smuggler" ...which is a costume my character sometimes wears on missions....I have no place to post photos...so I put it on the main website where we post photos of our costume and "equipment"...
